Ethical Decisions

Hi everyone,

I need some help... I'm helping to present a workshop on "Ethical Decision Making" (Actually titled "What Would Yoda Do?) in a forum open to all Greek leaders on campus.

I need to come up with about 8-10 "Situations" for people to rank as "Most Ethical" to "Least Ethical" - I want them to be based on Greek Topics...

The samples I have are general like: Using a fake ID or Hiding a book in the library so noone else can find it except you, and crap like that... but i really want to bring them to the Greek level

Can anyone come up with some good "Ethical Values Testing" situations I can use?

Thanks in advance

just a thought

Heres one off the top of my head..Your favorite brother/sister, who you care about alot, you catch him/her telling an independant/or other greek member your fratenity/sorority ritual. Now this terrible thing, and you love your fraternity/sorotiy a lot, but you also care about that your brother/sister and you know by taking this to the president or advisor they may suffer a bad punishment..What do you do?

Let me know if you like. I might be able to come up with some more.

heres another

okay heres another one..your either the risk manager/judicial chair (someone who keeps up the rules/punishes those who break them) and one night you get a call saying that four of your good friends and your brothers/sisters had just hazed a few of the pledges. Now heres the tricky part. Ur planning on running for president/or some other office. Elections are in two weeks. 1. you know you should punish those guys, because if you dont u lose faith in your character and some of the other members may dislike you 2. but if you punish them, you know you lose their votes for office and u wont get voted in....so what do you do? do you try to sweep it under the carpet as it didnt happen, risking the fact you may hurt ur character or do you do the best for your GLO and punish those involved, even if they were ur friends.

let me know if these are on tract of what u want
Jason

A good one that I've heard:

Your fraternity house is on fire, you are on the third story, and the building will be totally in flames in a short time. You have just enough time to either: a) save your girlfriend of three years who you are in love with and may marry, b) save a brother in the next room, or c) save the regalia and some of the historical artifacts of your chapter.

What do you do?

There is no right answer, but it is always fun to ask this to some guy who is "whipped".

Yeah, we ask something similar to that when we interview brothers. We've gotten some odd responces, needless to say many from people who didn't make they cut. one person said "hell, I'd grab my computer. it's got lots of porn" Or "I'd save the brother but I'd definately be gettin' some head on the way out".

The best one came from someone who turned out to be a really great brother. His responce was "I'd save the brother, actually wait, which brother is this, 'cause if it's Oven I'm gettin' the girl" (Oven is a slightly overweight brother we have who is really the man, but none of us could lift him).

I guess a scenario you could put is "a brother gets busted by the police walking back from a bar PLASTERED and accidentally hands them a fake ID. Do you keep quiete to keep your house out of trouble, or provide aide which you know will tip the not-so-friendly-to-greeks Police off to the fact he's a brother?" This is a Risk management issue but a common one.

At a Greek retreat, my daughter heard this one-lots of holes you can fill in.

Your brother/sister is in your class and having trouble with the assignments and tests. He/she is at risk of failing. Because they are already on probation and in a do or die position, how far would you KNOWINGLY go to "help" this person and not turn them in. Some examples of the levels-
1. Crimp sheets
2. Copy off a stranger
3. Copy of you
4. Stolen test

dirty rushing

Your president talks to the Rho Chi's (Rho Alpha-whatever) and her best friend going through rush like 10 minutes after they leave a formal rush party. YOU know this is wrong, but youwant the best girls in your new pledge class. What do you do? Do you nark them out? Is this actually that bad? You have been told before that "everyone does it"?

And another...

This is your first semester as a an actual brother/sister. You come home to your DRY house, to find a bunch of your brother/sisters drinking with another some people from another fraternity/sorority. Nows its a small gathering, but you know the rules. Do you tell someone, or do you brush off not wanting to make a bad impression on the brothers/sisters and their friends.
