Starting an Alumnae Chapter

As I am sure a few of you already know, I am in the process of starting an alumnae chapter in my home town of Corpus Christi, TX. I received a list of all the A-Phi's in the area from IHQ. There are about 50 women, so I am hoping this will be a success. I will be calling these women, rather than sending them something in the mail. I think I would have a better response with phone calls since it would be more personal.

After I call and ask if they would be interested in participating in an alumnae chapter, then what? I have all of the information about chartering, etc, but how do I go about asking for them to help charter? Chartering does take time and effort, and I know many of these women simply won't have the time.

If you all don't mind, I may have other questions to ask, and may also ask for opinions regarding certain matters.

If anybody has any start-up advice, I would love to hear it! This is definitely going to take a lot of work, but I know the end result will be worth it.

Wish me luck (and energy), because I seriously think I am going to need it!

I will also be posting in the "Alumni Involvement" forum to see if anybody there has any advice for starting an alumnae chapter.

I helped re-start an alumnae group when I was a collegiate. When we contacted people we already had our date and time for our first meeting. We invited them to the meeting and had elections for officers and set up our committees and people paid their dues. We were on our way. I know this sounds over simplified, but the first step is to set a date, time and place for your meeting. Think of it like a COB party. You want to recruit them to join your chapter. Have it at your house or at a nearby coffee shop or restaurant. Do something easy that fits into your schedule and others.

Good luck and always feel free to ask for ideas!

NEED HELP WITH FUN IDEAS!!

An Alpha Phi who recently moved to my hometown area and I are getting an alumnae chapter going here in Corpus. There are 60 A-Phi's in the area and we are looking at having our first "meeting" the Thursday after Thanksgiving.

We plan on this meeting being about an hour and a half, since we will be having it at a restaraunt. I am looking for fun ideas to incorporate into our evening, as to not make it solely an informative session. One idea my partner had was to have a theme and ask that each woman bring a gift relating to the theme, which we will in turn donate to the Women's Shelter here in town. We are also looking for a fun game, or some sort of fun idea to close the evening. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!

Tentative Schedule:

- Ice breaker at the beginning of the evening to "break the ice."
- Order food
- My partner and I will talk and give them information about why they should join the alumnae chapter
- Eat
- FUN EVENT
- Good-bye's
