Suffocating
What can I do about the guy in the next cubical that smells without being rude. The worst thing about spending 10 hours in the office is spending it in a smelly one!

Well, if he reeks of cheap cologne you can politely explain that it's aggravating your pretend allergies. If he's just plain dirty, there's no way to mention that without being kinda rude. You could try continually dropping referrences to your own grooming, need for deoderant, etc and see if he's capable of taking a hint. That's about it though.

My boyfriend is in HR, and he's had to address this issue with a number of different employees. So, if you have an HR person, go to them and have them deal with it. Sounds silly, but that is what those HR folks are for.

Can you mention something to your boss? Maybe he/she can say something to him.

Set up a air freshener fortress around your cubical. Have a scented candle at every corner, with glade plugins at every electrical socket and spray febreeze on the stank ass everytime he walks by. He will get the hint eventually.

I said one time "Just needed some fresh air". But it was not working.

AWWWWW YEAH! LOL
For real though! I mean, you can use some tact when saying this... but it has to be said. Wouldn't YOU wanna know if you were stank and bothersome?

I'm all for direct confrontation here..
In all seriousness, if he thought his hygeine was a problem (or even had an inkling of an idea) he'd have probably done something about it. Depending on your organization's norms you'll either be best directly confronting him or operating through someone in an authority position (like HR or your direct supervisor)

How you should approach it depends on your relationship with him.
You may want to get someone else to intervene...

Have him receive a visit from the Right Guard Fairy!
Or, talk to your boss or someone from HR about changing cubicles, and tell them why. That way, you get away from the guy without having to confront him.
