ADPis Please Read! Imporant Philanthropy Info.

I was just forwarded this information from a fellow ADPi who is planning an event for her Alumnae Association. (See the Press Release below)

Apparently Ronald McDonald Children's Charities have announced that November 20, 2002 will be "World Children's Day".
I would recommend that all ADPis both collegiate and alumna consider how they can help this worthy fundraising effort!
According to the press release, a portion of the profits from McDonald's restaurants on November 20th will be donated to Ronald McDonald Children's Charities, so a fun fundraising idea would be to get your entire chapter or alumnae association to go for lunch at your local McDonalds. Can it get any easier than that?! Or, perhaps you could promote it somehow, campus-wide, I'm sure all you ADPis could come up with some amazing ideas!

The Press Release:

McDonald's® Announces First-Ever Worldwide Fundraiser For Children
"World Children's Day" To Be Held November 20, 2002

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 26, 2002) -- On November 20, 2002, McDonald's 29,000 restaurants around the world will host an unprecedented simultaneous fundraiser for children in their communities. "World Children's Day" at McDonald's was announced by McDonald's Chairman and CEO, Jack Greenberg, during the company's worldwide franchisee convention in Las Vegas this week.

"McDonald's has a rich heritage and tradition of being a good community partner and neighbor," said Greenberg. "As the needs of the world's children have increased over time, so has the need for every company and every citizen to play a role in affecting positive change. We believe McDonald's, with restaurants in 121 countries around the world, is in a unique position to empower people to come together and actively participate in improving the lives of children."

Funds raised from World Children's Day efforts will benefit local Ronald McDonald House Charities® Chapters and other children's causes in communities worldwide. Specific fundraising activities will vary by country, market, and restaurant. Current plans include donations on product sales, community events such as car washes and walk-a-thons and other cause-related initiatives in the restaurants.

"By simply visiting their local McDonald's restaurants on Wednesday, November 20, people everywhere can join this worldwide effort to help children," said Ken Barun, President and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities. "As a beneficiary of this fundraiser, Ronald McDonald House Charities can continue to grow its mission of directly improving the health and well being of children around the world."

Kayla,
Great! I think it's a fun opportunity to support RMH.
Remember to take pictures of whatever you do, and send them into the Adelphean, I'd love to see pictures of my GC ADPis in action!

What a wonderful & easy way to help RMH and Alpha Delta Pi!! I'm going to inform all my Pi friends about it, and make sure they all wear their letters on November 20th!!

How much easier can it get?

See you under the golden arches!

Honeychile,
Yes, isn't it an easy, fun, opportunity to do some good and get to eat McDonalds with a minimum of guilt?! I hope they make this an annual event.
I've started an email chain with all my ADPis friends so all of us know to do this all over the country.
It's funny though, because there's no mention of it on the National Site, I really wish that site was a bit more proactive in their news section. I think updates on what RMHC was doing nationally would be very interesting to all ADPis.
Oh well, I've found that every time I have these "ideas" its a sign that I should rededicate myself to volunteering to ADPi, it just proves to me how important this organization is in my life.

P.S. Wearing your letters that day is a great idea! I think I might order one of those alumna shirts from giftmart.

Oh, absolutely, violets!

One of my favorite alumna stories is about two ADPis who lived next door for about 6 months, and then the one saw the other raking leaves while wearing an ADPi sweatshirt. Until then, they didn't know that they were both ADPis!

I just may use this as an excuse for a new one myself! Mr. Visa just loves that!

Thumbs up Bumping this up!

Okay, now that it's November I decided to bump this thread up. I'm making plans with my local ADPi alumns to treat ourselves to McDonalds on the 20th. Such a fun, easy philanthropy night.
