Cock Fighting still legal..

I didn't know it until just recently but Cock fighting is still legal in my state.

There's going to be a general election in a few days to see if it stays that way. Just thought it was an interesting piece of news.

To be honest I'm torn on how to vote on this one and how I feel about it.

We slaughter chickens for food all the time... Thousands upon thousands daily.

It's highly competitive and actually is a big boost in some of these rural areas' economies (rural Oklahoma is VERY destitute so any kind of industry at all is big there).

We hunt and kill animals all the time as a means of recreation right or wrong it's legal in 50 states as far as I know.

So with the same animal that we normally would slaughter by the thousands why not have another legal means of entertainment?

One could say it was cruel and that it was torture except for the fact that these birds were they to meet in nature would do exactly the same thing they are doing now for sport.

It's an interesting idea anyway. I'll probably vote no because of the image it gives the state but I can see both sides here.

It's illegal in Hawaii.

Yes it's cruel and disgusting, but it brings in big bucks when you win.

Since I was a kid, I'd help my dad take care of our game cocks, and they were always a nuisance to our neighbors...we'd get complaints about them crowing all day... and on the weekends we'd go to someone's house for a day of cockfighting.

Sad to say, it's a way of life here...and the police can raid the derbys all they want...I doubt they'll get rid of it.

Cock fighting is big here in the Virgin Islands. There has been talk about banning it, but I doubt that will ever happen. Like OTW said, it's a way of life here too.

whoever said "money makes the world go round" was probably right. i completely *disagree* with the fighting. sad that it is legal just because it generates money.

I think it's on its way out here... I'll let ya'll know after November 5th. It's not like law enforcement out in these areas has the money to deal with it anyhow... It's still the wild west out there.

Not legal here but drive no more than an hour in any direction and i'm sure you could find it.
