Is your state the smartest?
Can you guess where your state is in the rankings?

 I agree.
And yay, Wisconsin is sixth! I'm not too surprised, though; we have a great public school system here.

To quote Lewis Black:
"Five years ago Alabama was 47th. And the people of Alabama were so upset they sued the state. That means the people of Alabama.........sued themselves..........."

Gotta love Alabama, two years ago a good friend of mine moved there from Illinois, he hates it, and tells me all about the *wonderful* people he has met...
My friend told me about that sue thingy... he also said something about how the state is so poor, or something about the school system and how it's so deep in debt, and someting with the governor and schools and money. I guess they turned down federal funding to improve schools because they would then have to comply with federal education standards... huh, that's just a shame, complying with federal standards, and the governor responded with "No one is going to tell Alabama how to run school's!" I guess he was too busy advocating prayer in schools or something to that affect.
I was suprised to see Illinois so low on the list, I live in IL, but go to school in IA, and I never in a million years thought Iowans were smarter than we were... you should see how they drive.

This doesn't include private schools. Some schools in New York are among the best in the country.

Michigan is ranked #20 and Ohio is ranked #41. Does that mean that Michiganders are twice as smart as residents of Ohio? lol

hmmm... the top 15 are all in the "northern" half of the US and the bottom 4 are all in the "southern" half of the US.... interesting
If this doesn't include private schools - well then I don't even count for Illinois - I went to private school from 1st-12th grade - and i recieved an A+ education
I do however, get my higher education from a public school - Iowa, which is doing quite nicely at 11

Michigan is #20. That's really good, but I'm actually suprised it's not higher.
(Oh come on, W. should have dragged Texas at least out of the top 20 )

LA is 49th. Not surprising. Most of the state's public schools are terrible. There are quite a few excellent private schools.
One good thing about living here is, its easy to be smart
A bad thing is I have to deal with the people who put us #49 on a daily basis.

Connecticut is #1!!!
Unfortunately I went to school in New York... but Cream is right, there are some excellent private schools in NY, plus some top-rated public school districts, especially on Long Island and in Westchester, and the NYC magnet schools.
