Zoning Laws

Anybody know what is Buffalo's zoning law concerning fraternity or sorority housing? If not, where can I find out?

I would talk to City Hall. They should know all that jazz.

Buffalo's Zoning Laws are a part of the City Charter and can be found here. Zoning is Chapter 511. The procedure for Sororities and Fraternities is set forth at 511-16 G.

A copy of the Buffalo Zoning Map from 1987 can be found here.

The following uses, when specially permitted and allowed by the Board of Appeals after a hearing: rooming or boarding house, fraternity or sorority house and nursing or convalescent home. Such permission shall be granted by the Board only after due and careful consideration of the following facts: the general character of the surrounding neighborhood, prevention of overcrowding, protection of property values and suitability of the lot and building for the proposed use.
If I get this right, this pretty much says that fraternity or sorority housing is permitted if a permit is given. Hmm, that in the step of the right direction. Any lawyer could give additional input?

Quote:
One (1) identification sign not exceeding six (6) square feet in area, excluding illuminated signs of the flashing or animated type. Any such sign shall be attached flat against the main building and shall identify only the building itself and any permitted principal use. The limitations of this subdivision with reference to identification signs shall not apply to any church as approved individually by the Common Council under such terms and conditions as the Council may prescribe.
This pretty said that if we get the permit to run a fraternity house, the letters are permitted to be put on the house.
Hmm, I should bring this up to the AB. Wonder what they'll think.
