can you get high off cleaning agents?

So I was cleaning the bathroom yesterday and things got a little out of hand -- it'd been awhile since it'd been cleaned, I was mad at the boyfriend, and the poor bathroom felt my wrath.

Anyway. I was using bleach, Formula 409, and a couple other products. I had the bathroom fan on, but there was a LOT of cleaning going on and the fan's old.

Point being, when I was done, I was feeling a little loopy. Is it really possible to get high off cleaning agents?! I took a nap (hey, it was hard work) and woke up with a kickin' headache.

Now I feel a little deliquent, wondering if I accidentally spent a Friday afternoon huffing household cleaning agents.

Thoughts?

Yes I would imagine some products might have those affects. It's hard to know what effect common chemicals have on you if you don't have good ventilation.

Funny, a lot of those products say "Use in a well ventilated area" Well the bathroom was well ventilated, you wouldn't get the grout that you have to use the 409 for anyway!

hehe, funny you should bring this up, my roommate and I just got done giving the apt. a good top to bottom cleaning and we're definately a little loopy. I'm also now just eating lunch (it's almost 3pm here), so that probably helped too!

Our college switched to markerboards from blackboards. I can't stand the fumes from markers!!! Not to mention that our students never stole our chalk--but we can't keep markers. I am told that they find their way to the students' markerboards outside their dorm rooms.

If you mix like chorine bleach and ammonia or something containing them, you can get really overtaken by the fumes. I didn't know that, and I almost passed out, but it can even make you like die I think.

In my old apartment we had a laundry room. One night we had a party and rather than take our trash ALL the way down to the dumpster, we just threw it in the laundry room. Well the next weekend when I went to do laundry, I noticed that the trash was still in there, along with about a million gnats (eggs included). So I closed the door and went to get some Raid. I sprayed it all in there and waited. When I opened the door, only about 2,000 had died, leaving 998,000. So I had to get some Windex from under the sink and spray it profusely all over them until I had killed most of them. I had closed the door behind me so they wouldn't fly all over the house. It makes Chlorine gas and WILL kill you. It's one thing the Nazi's used to kill people in WW2

Sure you can get high... spray them into a soda can and inhale the fumes -- that's called 'huffing'. Usually folks use spray paint or something like that... But I guess some chemicals would work just as well.

Never done it myself. Known some who have. That stuff will mess you up quick -- for life.

Only use one cleaning product at a time! Take a break for the air to clear before you go back with another! People have died from these fumes, even after being exposed for short periods of time.

I can add to the comments.

In high school I had some friends that found a cheap way of getting high.

They took Glade air-freshner, put a towel over the top while holding their thumb on the button. Then they put their mouth over the top of the towel and huffed away. At the time I thought it was hilarious seeing them act stupid after huffin what most people use to hide the smell of shit or weed, but then it got kinda bad because some fo them would take it to chemistry class and huff Glade while the professor was giving her boring lectures. Things got kinda out of hand when they ended up getting the Cheerleaders, the dance team and the soccer team doing it as well. It was as though most us leaders of our class were going around huffing Air-freshner. It's a crack-head thing to do.

One time I had to draw the line. I was out with some of my friends one night and we got extremely drunk. Then one of them said, " Hey, Wal-Mart has a two for one special on Glade right now, let's go grab a few!" I was like ...."WTF? We are not going to Wal-Mart to grab some Air-freshner!!!" Since I was not the driver we ended up going anyhow. This was the only time I wished none of our parents had money, so they couldn't go and buy the shit. They ended up buying 16 cans of it. After wal-mart we left and got completely wasted on Vodka. They forgot about the air-freshner. We went to a Waffle house at 4:30am and for some reason about 8 Palm Beach police officers came in as well. I don't know if they cops could smell the Vodka on us or what but when we went to leave they ALL came outside and busted us. They ended up searching the vehicle and when they opened the trunk they saw the Glade. When asked what was all the Air-freshner needed for, my friend replied, " My moms a maid." We all started cracking up.....The police didn't find it amusing. Some how they found it unbelievable that a son of a maid would be driving around in a new Yukon that had players club printed in gold on the back windshield along with the Ace of Clubs.

The cops ended up taking each of us home individually.
