Fall Semi Formal Favors
My chapter is sick of getting glassware for favors. I found the cutest favor--- sorority garters!
Do you think that would be tacky? One for the sister, and one for her date.

Well, I don't think that my chapter would have really liked that for a few reasons. First, because it's not the classiest thing and second, because most garters I have seen are pretty cheap looking (not cheap like trashy, but cheap as in "not a quality product"). However, I don't know your chapter and they might love it and think it is fun.
Some favors we did at my chapter (besides the usual tees and glasses) were: boxer shorts (maybe also not totally classy but a little more mainstream... boys actually wore them as underwear and girls as shorts), scrub pants, picture frames, mugs (a little different than glasses at least), key chains... I can't think of the others right now... The scrub pants were a huge hit though.

I don't know why that bothers me but the garter does. It seems very Dukes of Hazard. I guess I associate the garter with that guy in the Trans Am with the mullet and garter around the rearview mirror.
On the other hand if the theme were The Fall Hookup and you gave out handcuffs that wouldn't bother me. Wait, what am I saying?!?! Handcuffs/Hookup oh no, what is wrong with me? That is even trashier! I think the don't be offended thread is really starting to mess me up. Forget I even posted anything!

No, I kind of agree with three2tango... if it was not a classy, formal party then the garter might be okay.
If it is formal or semi-formal, it is a nice time to dress up and act like the grown-ups we are supposed to be. However, if it is a cheesy theme party, then a cheesy or less classy gift totally makes sense. When I think of garters, I sort of think of the 80s, so maybe it would be cute for an 80s party?

Where are u guys all from? Cuz where I'm at, girls still wear garters under their dresses and guys still put them on the mirrors. I have my formal one on my mirror (didn't like my date, and my garter is pink & white so why not?). I've talked to some sorority girls from aroudn here and they think it's cute, so I think that's what I'm gona go with.

Totally go for it if everyone there likes it... things vary from place to place.
Where I am (undisclosed location... ha ha), the only garters we wear are the sexy contraptions with stockings (you probably know what I am talking about... they are part of any matching set from VS or places like that). And very rarely do we wear those...

Yes, I suppose it's a regional thing. I've never seen anyone hang a garter in their car or anyplace else.
We did baseball hats for one formal, which became a tradition.
We got sick of the glassware as well...it's not as if I'm ever going to set a formal table with all my ADPi glassware. Although I would be a cute party idea for alumnae.

I am from Tennessee, so I imagine things are the same where you are about the guy in the Trans Am. If you love it and the other girls love it then you go with your garter!
