Dad's Weekend
Hey everyone!
I'm the Special Events chair for my sorority, and lately, girls have been tossing around the idea of having a Dad's Weekend sometime this semester. We have an annual Mom's Weekend in the Spring, and we heard that some Dad's got jealous and wanted to come down and see our sisterhood too. Being that this would be the first time ever doing this, I've been brainstorming, but need some more ideas...help please!

One of the things that is always a huge hit with the chapter that I help advise is a Father-Daughter Day which includes attending a college baseball game in the spring. The girls have t-shirts made up for themselves and their fathers, and the dads absolutely love it.
Last year's shirt said something like "Daddy/Daughter Day" on the front and "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" on the back with a picture of a baseball diamond. It was really cute.
Good luck with your planning!

How bout just having them both come at once? Parents weekend. You kill two birds with one stone and cut your costs.

not only that, not everyone has a mom and dad living or available to come - having 2 days only amplifies that. parents' day or family day incorporates everyone without anyone feeling left out.

My chapter had "Parents' Weekend" in the fall and then "Moms' Day" and "Dads Day" separately in the spring.
One thing a chapter on my campus did that was really cute for "Dads' Day" was a barbecue/picnic in the park. They played a quiz-show type game on how well the dads and daughters knew each other and they played softball. The girls and the dads all wore the shirts for the event to it and they had them made in gray and blue (one team had gray, one had blue)... the shirts said "Dads and their Brats at Bat."

We already have a Parents Weekend that is held during the University's Parents Weekend. And, I wouldn't want to take away the "Mom's Weekend" so abruptly, since we've been having it by itself for so long, and a lot of moms and sisters look really forward to it. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I was thinking about holding the Dad's Weekend during the last home football game, going to that, having a tailgater, but then I'm stuck. I want to do more activities, but its probably going to be chilly out (Nov. 16), so I'm trying to think of some indoor stuff.

We are actually having Dad's Weekend next week and Mom's Weekend usually happens in the spring for us. For this Dad's Weekend, we are taking our dad's to a football game on Saturday with some tailgating. After the game, we pretty much do what we want. I believe that those who are 21 and over are going to try and take the dad's to a few bars! On Sunday we have a brunch with the dad's at the house. The dad's are getting polo shirts that have AOII and the event on it. The girls shirts are going to have the event on the front and a cute picture with something like "Daddies Girl" on the back.

This isn't an idea for the dad's weekend, but in regards to the parents' weekend thing... My sorority has a "mom's" weekend, only we call it a Special Lady in Our Lives weekend. Quite a mouthful, I know, but it's because not all of our members had moms living when we started doing it. Because we named it such anyone was allowed to invite a mom, aunt, sister, grandma etc.

We just had our parents weekend about two weeks ago...we scheduled it for the same weekend that the school held it's parents weekend so that parents from further away didn't have to make two trips. Our event was tailgating and then going to the home football game. (We are a dry campus...so the alcohol thing didn't come into play at all). But we had a table full of food, we got a few 6 ft subs from subway, and our parents had a great time! (Even though we lost the football game.)

this weekend is family weekend on campus woooo.. personally my family wasn't invited since it's a big cheesy campus scheme to get more money from the families...
we also have dinner in november with the sorority for the parents to show them all the philanthropies and stuff we do, to kinda prove we are worth the trouble to them, you know?

My school has a Dad's Weekend...There's a bunch of different activities but the only thing I can remember right now is there is a jazz show and a football game. My house has a brunch for girls and their parents, complete with favors. That's all I know for now!
