I just have to ask....
Does anyone have any really totally random stupid type questions that they are just dying to know the answer to? Because I do and it has bothered me for the longest (this really tells you that I need to get a life!):
Okay, some TV shows have a theme song that is sometimes extended...for example, Golden Girls has their theme song that is usually played with just a verse. Well sometimes it has this whole middle verse added in...and I just gotta ask.....WHAT DETERMINES WHETHER OR NOT THEY PLAY THE WHOLE SONG?
Now is this a totally random question or what?! If you remember that show "Greatest American Hero" -- the song was a *real* song they played on the radio too (Believe it or not it's just me) -- they did it on there too. And there's a whole bunch more -- but I just wanted to open the door for the world's most random question and *hopefully* there will be more randomness out there to suport me !

they lengthen/shorten the theme song to make up for any advertising space over sold/not sold or a longer/shorter show that week.
Also, know all those NBC promos you see on NBC, that is ad space that did not sell to a paying advertiser.

I LOVE this thread!! Ok, I have a book, it's called Lifes Imponderables, by David Feldman. It has a TON of these types of questions in it. Like why do clocks run clockwise, stuff like that. It is the BOMB!! Oh, I am with you, I love randomness!! I wish I had the book with me at work, I would post some of the questions. Ooh, maybe I'll do it when I get home, if I remember!

Amycat -- THANK YOU SO MUCH! Now I can have peace in my mind...hahaha! I always thought NBC had a ton of promo's!
Ideal -- PLEASE POST SOME! That sounds so funny! Kind of like the old "Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?" type questions!

okay, well these are really dumb, but my dad made them up. He is so corny sometimes, but we all laugh at them. Hopefully you guys will too.....
"If you take the wings off of a fly do you call it a walk ?"
"Can a vegetarian eat animal crackers?"
He thinks they are really good questions, but as you can tell they are sooo dumb. He loves thinking of things like that!

I had the pleasure of seeing Pete Seeger this past weekend. He has this song, "English is Crazy"...in which he ponders that question and others.

I have one. WHO DETERMINES THE RADIO PLAY LISTS AT THEIR RESPECTIVE STATIONS?? The local DC radio stations SUCK AZZ and I want to get into their stations, put some REAL music on and start to wake people up!!! I mean, why do they play the SAME songs OVER AND OVER?? Also, why do stations only play certain songs from an artist's album? Is it a legal agreement? Also, when will GRUNGE be PUT TO BED!? I mean, you cannot miss music if it WON'T GO AWAY!!!

Is anyone else amazed by the post office? I know it sounds weird, but think about ALLLLLLLLLLLL of the mail that is sent everyday!! Then think about how they seperate it all and get it to the right place almost 99% of the time. I find that amazing.

sigmagrrl - it's called CORPORATE ROCK. Advertisers are much more involved in playlists now and they usually pick the "safest" songs from an album. Plus (stupid deregulation) the laws that used to prevent a company from owning more than one station in a market are gone so one company can own 5 stations. Booo!! I could rant at length about this but it's too early in the AM!
My imponderable: do we call an orange an orange because it's orange, or is the color orange called orange because of the orange?
Another imponderable: why do the morning DJ's I listen to insist on talking over the beginning of "Monkey Man" by the Rolling Stones when that's the best part of the song??? This is happening as I type. GRRRRR!

Here are a few imponderables from the book:
Why is the telephone touch-tone key pad arranged differently from the calculator key pad?
Ivory Soap advertises its product as 99 and 44/100 percent pure--99 and 44/100 percent what?
Washington D.C. streets are named alphabetically. Why is there no J street?
Why can't they make newspapers that don't smudge?
And one of my favorites: Why don't you ever see really tall old people?
** The answers are in the book!! **

Why are most babies born with dark blue eyes then change color as they turn older? Just curious. Lisa
