Elections
Well, my chapter's elections are coming up soon and I imagine we're not the only ones. I thought it'd be nice to set up a support thread for anyone running for or needing advice about positions!
I know I could definitely use both. I am currently the Phi Director and I'm running for Panhel Delegate. Heh, anyone have any advice for what I can do to help get votes?

Good luck on running for Panhel delegate!! The only advice I can think of right now (this is what we tell everyone the first time she runs for exec) that not only are you running for a specific position, you're also running to be a member of exec, so you should mention why you'd be good for each area!
I'm really nervous about elections! Currently, I'm the Membership Director, but I'm running for President!

hmmm... I just realized you've probably already had elections, but just in case I'll leave up what I've already written. Our chapter's elections were moved back a week due to outside circumstances, so I've got to wait til next weekend!
If you've already had elections, let us know what happened!

Speaking as an alum and a chapter adviser, I think it would be great to look back at the previous year and make some mental notes of what you think worked and didn't work with various positions. Then, decide how you would improve upon them to make your chapter that much stronger. I say 'mental notes' because you don't want to come across with negative campaigning - leave that to the politicians...but your chapter members will be able to hear what you say and pick up on the fact that you were attentive the past year and have given some thought as to what is needed to get the position continually moving in the right direction. Always look to build upon something good. Show you care about the position.
Good luck with the elections and keep the board posted on the outcome.

I was actually on the Exec Board this year. I served as the Phi Director. Our elections aren't until Nov 17th, so I'll let everyone know after then! I've also started to think about running for Vice President. Does anyone have any cool CD ideas that maybe I could mention in my speech should I run?

best of luck ladies! i was the president and secretary of my chapter (way back when). definately be careful not to say things that will hurt the person in the position last year. i remember when i was a senior, the person who was running for secretary said something like, and you won't have to afraid to call and say you can't come to things like you used to. well, needless to say, the person who had been the secretary was pretty upset! she ended up crying later that night bc she couldn't believe the canidate had said that!
my other advice is to not make promises you can't keep! lol....i might have been watching a little too much campaign stuff!
have fun and keep us posted!!!
ooh, i just heard that the body shop will come out and do facial parties...that could be a cool chapter d if you have a smaller chapter!

Woohoo for Elections :o)
Hello to all! I'm new to the boards: I'm Alicia, a Phi Mu from Baldwin-Wallace in Ohio. I was initiated last March and have loved every minute. We had our elections Nov. 3rd and I was voted the new Philanthropy director for our chapter for next year I'll start my position in February and i'm very excited to start. The director right now is AMAZING- she's done so much to advance the philanthropy in the chapter. I just hope that i'll be able to fill her shoes.
I guess the advice i have for elections is to make sure your personality comes through in your speech and questioning. I'm a theatre major, so being in front a group of people is definitely my sort of thing, but I know for some people it can be nerve racking. Just remember- they're your sisters out there supporting you. Good luck to all running

Well, we had our elections tonight! I chose not to run for Vice President. But I did run for Panhel Delegate and got it! I'm now trying to plan an Exec Board retreat. We didn't do that last year, and I think it may have hurt us a bit because I don't feel like we were a really cohesive unit. I really want this new Exec Board to bond and have a goal setting session.

Congratulations to everyone who was elected to exec positions.
Being on exec was one of the more challenging but enjoyable things that I have done for Phi Mu. It's alot of work but when it's over you'll look back and marvel at how much you accomplished and how much you learned.
My best advice is to leave the position a little better than you came into it. Good Luck
