Bigs??? Stress!
I'm stressed ! Any hints on how to pic a great big????? ACK! I'm pretty shy so it's hard for me to meet some of the sisters! But once you know me I'm NOT like that at all...plus some of my fellow new members are quite LOUD and crazy and I'm feeling held back because I"m intimidated!
*mk* AXO!

awww sweetie!
bigs are the best part of your new member period. don't be intimidated because whomever you get will love you for you and will want to know everything about your life. she is a listening ear, guardian angel and best friend all wrapped in one. AND you get spoiled rotten. it's the best!
but in picking someone... maybe pick someone you clicked with at recruitment. or maybe just someone you would like to get to know better.
i was allowed seven choices for my big sis and my actual big sis wasn't on my original list... but i was first on hers and i love her to death.
good luck with your choices... keep us updated.

Big Sis
Hey
Big sisters are SO important.. they can make your new member experience wonderful! or not so wonderful.
Pick a sister who is involved and similar to your own interests.. therefore you will have alot in common and be the best BIG/lil
ever!
keep us updated!

Rockchalk:
I believe you are paired up with another charter sister so technically there is no big/lil. This would be the starting point of the family tree.

Sometimes colonies ask alums to act as "Rose/Heart/Pearl" (or whatever) sisters as an alternative to big sisters.

I was told that the new Delta Zeta colony will be assigning "Twin Sisters", basically someone from the first pledge class will be you "Twin" and you will do much of the same gift buying and buddy stuff etc.

I was really stressed when I had to pick both my big AND my little, because I go out a lot, and the two girls that I picked don't. Just remember, you want a big sis who you can turn to for advice. A big sis is supposed to guide you through the new member process. It's not as important that it's someone that you hang out with, but it's important that it's more of a... well... big sister.

MK, do they give you "pals" to hang out with during the first few weeks?? That's how I found both my Big and my Lil. BTW, I am still best friends with both my big and my lil. It can and will work out for the best, no matter what

Eta Chapter of Kappa at UW Madison is my ZE Chatper's Big Sister Chapter. That means that when ZE colonized in 1981, Kappas from Eta came to help the HQ representatives with the colonization rush. They distance-mentored the colony members and returned several times throughout the colony period. They were present at Initiation/Installation and all the charter ZE Kappas have big sisters from Eta. I believe this is how Kappa always does it. The nearest chapter helps out with the colonization rush and they provide big sisters for the new members. I like it because it links chapters together. I hope that someday a new Kappa chapter will charter near here and we can be the Big Sister Chapter. That'd be awesome.

Does that matter?
Do girls in your chapter not get more than one little sister if it turns out that way? I mean, it seems nice to be the only child... but if you really think one of the girls is super and she already has a little, don't think that means you can't request her as your big sis. My Big Sister already had a little sister when I joined, but I thought she was absolutely smashing so I picked her as my big sister anyway--and you know what, it is SO awesome having a TWIN SISTER too that I can't imagine it any other way!!

Re: Big Sis
I agree with Ashley-pick someone that you have things in common with if possible. My big was also going into some type of medical field and she was studious just like me-we had a lot in common, plus we were both juniors (I pledged as a junior). I was so lucky to get her .
