Things we've found to work.

Just a few things that my brothers and I try to do for fall rush when the new students start to come in. Being that many of ppl living in the dorms move in on the Saturday before classes being, which is the 1st of September this year, and leases from around campus are usually up on this day also, we like to do what we call a "bag drag." OMG does this work, we all get up at 6 a.m....yea..it's early...but move in starts at 7. We all meet at the house, have a huge breakfast, and head out for the dorms and surrounding neighborhoods. We are equipped with flyers, pamphlets and other forms of literature. We help out those that need help moving in, and we pass along information on the fraternity as we do it. IT WORKS...and we get positive recognition from the university for doing these things. Other things that we may do are help the newer prespectives around campus, like finding classes, the library, computer labs, offices and what not. It works, it's really helpful and even if you don't get someone to pledge, they can still be a possible friend, which I have made quite a few in the process. Just something to think about, but it's been successful for us, not sure how it will be on other campuses.

One of the fraternities on campus helps frosh move in to rez every year wearing their letters during frosh week. Most of the rest of us greeks are frosh guides so we're not allowed to be wearing our letters during frosh week in which we're up everyday at 7 or even earlier at times. At our campus greeks are also not allowed to post fleirs in residence. The only way around it is to post on the back of the wall of the stalls in the washroom.

My chapter recently helped with freshman move in this weekend, it was absolutely crazy. A simple way we found is to go over to the freshmen housing area, and play pickup games of ultimate frisbee, football, basketball, whatever. Just hang around and show what cool guys you have in your chapter, then when rush actually starts, give'em the hard sell, and things pop into place.

Just a quick question d, have any of your bros been guides/boss'? for frosh week (what we call welcome week in canada)?
It's a great way to rush - every year there's strong greek representation, not only do the frosh remember us when rush week hits, rushing other guides is a great way to pickup guys already involved on campus.

we have had a few brothers volunteer in the past, but we have about 17 brothers (including myself) helping out this year. We are required to wear some t-shirt the university gives us, but we are allowed to promote our fraternity if we want. So that might help out to our advantage.
