Lazy Phi

Aaaaaiiieee! There is a GORGEOUS lazy phi pin for sale on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...item=714454784

The price is already at $125, and with days left on the auction I am sure it will go much higher. Of course tyoregon is the high bidder right now. If I recall correctly, he won another lazy phi pin within the last year (and I think he paid quite a bit of $$ for it) -- why exactly does he need another?? I hope I can restrain myself and not bid on it, but as the end nears, I may not be able to resist temptation. It is so beautiful.

Sorry to crash. . .

I saw the name of your thread, and I wanted to see what a Lazy Phi pin looked like. (I've seen it mentioned several times before). It looks really REALLY pretty!!! What is it's history? (Was it the first badge?)

Anyway, I was just curious. I hope that an APhi can win it!!

Thanks,
PsychTau

Taken from the Alpha Phi web site:

Originally there was no standard badge. Until 1906 when the current badge was adopted, each member went to the jeweler of her choice to have her pin designed. Most chose similar designs using the “lazy Phi,” a Phi symbol turned on its side.

Today, special honor badges, replicas of the lazy Phi pin, are worn by international officers, and Educational Leadership Consultants. They are also worn by presidents of collegiate chapters while they serve as president.

Question A question about this...

Okay, somebody mentioned to me that she wondered if this really is an Alpha Phi pin, and now that I think about it, I'm wondering too. If you look at it closely, the line going through the "phi" isn't really a straight line, and it doesn't really stick out at the ends -- I mean it kind of does, but when you really look at it, it doesn't look so much like a phi. What do you all think?

Hmmm, I have no idea. Perhaps you can look at old badges in the Alpha Phi history book you got off of eBay a while back to compare.

This is Stacey (AphiGal) at Lauradav's for the wknd -woohoo!!
Anyway...we had no "standard" lazy phi badge. Members designed their own. It looks authentic. There are many different styles in the heritage room at the EO. Unfortunately it is out of my price range by now....

On another side note. I got to meet the lovely ladies of Pepperdine the other day! What a terrific chapter!!

Thanks!!

What a neat story! Thank you for letting me know!

When I was at ASTs HQ several years ago, they had one of our first badges on display. It looked like ours do now (size may be a little different), but instead of black enamel, it was green enamel. VERY pretty!! It would certainly stand out now (lots of black enamel badges around).
