Tidegirl,
I'm going to UA this fall and I haven't been able to find a Theta rec either!!! Glad it's not just me! From what I've heard, you do have to have a rec to get a bid.

Hey all you bama girlies!!!! I'll be rushing w/ ya too!!!!
Amber--- I don't have a theta rec either, but unless someone just happens to offer me one, I'm not going to worry about it. I just found a tri-delt alumna, but I haven't sent her my stuff yet. I have to mail it tomorrow I guess

Hi everyone! I love seeing how excited you all about recruitment!

Try this option for recs- each organization has a data base for every alumnae they have.

Tri Delt: Schuyler Smith
ssmith@trideltaeo.org

Theta: Amye King
Atkthetabiz@hotmail.com

Pi Phi: No name (sorry)
centraloffice@piphico.org

It would not hurt to contact the above women and see if an alum resides in your hometown. I don't know if that is confidential or not- but... it is worth a try. If you do get a name- contact that alum and see if she would like to meet with you or see your resume. Who knows- maybe the lady you use to babysit for in 6th grade was a Theta, Tri Delt or Pi Phi! Good luck! Sue

Does the rec have to be from an alum? I'm not sure how the whole rec writing process works, but I'd be willing to offer my services. LOL! I'm a Pi Phi btw. If you need to get ahold of me just drop me an e-mail.

Do you have to have a rec at UA to get a bid?? My sister is getting really nervous because rush at FSU (where I went to school)is not as strict with that policy and we were not aware of the neccessity/formality of UA....She is scrambling now for recs and I want to calm her down and help her in anyway I can. She is now checking out the info here at GC and checking with her friends' mothers. Can someone give us some advice? Thank you!!

Ladybug16--- from what i hear, you gotta have a rec to get a bid from bama' sororities. but i've been told that if a house really likes you and you don't have a rec they will get one for you but, i can't be 100% positive about that. I had been scrambling the whole summer to get recs. Now there's 3 I'm not worrying about(i would be willing to tell you those in a private e-mail) and other than that I don't have AOII and Alpha Chi. Hopefully I will stumble upon someone who can help me out w/ those. Tell your sister I said good luck!!!
Liz

A letter of reference does not guarantee a bid. However, many sororities will not bid someone that does not have a letter of reference. It is the responsibility of the sorority to secure letters of reference if they are required.

Yes you have to have a rec at UA to get a bid, and yes, some houses will try to get one for you if you don't have one by the second or third day. But it is always better to have all your recs beforehand.

Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Gamma Phi Beta, and Kappa Delta are all among my top picks, but I don't have any connections to alum or collegiates from them Can anyone help me out with some advice? Thanks!
