Post Okay...help please :)

I just got my fall recruitment schedule from school. Now, I have some clothing questions. Haha. I know we've already covered this topic a million times, but last year they gave everyone pictures. This year, we just have written descriptions. The first night we are supposed to wear "a cool light weight sundress, skirt, or nice shorts." I know I should go with the dressiest option-but I don't want to be overdressed?! What's the perfect sundress?? Then the next night is casual. The nest night, Party Rounds, says "dress is casual, but a little dressier." What the heck does that mean?? I mean casual to me, during Rush, will be khacki's. So, what is "a little dressier" mean. Nicer khacki's or like black pants?? I'm so confused Help please!!!

Cool

I think I'd go with sundresses for both of the nights you're wondering about, or cute capri's.Lilly Pulitzer makes some great ones, they're not too dressy, and depending on shoes or jewelery, you can do alot to dress them up/down. That "casual, but a little dressier" line is pretty funny! Good luck!

I don't think this has been stressed enough, so I will do it----DRESS COMFORTABLY. You are trying to present yourself in the best possible light, and if your feet hurt and your sweater is itchy, you are not going to be your usual fun self by the last chapter you visit. There were girls at my school who actually had gym shoes to walk from house to house, and would then change into their heels when they got there. If you have large distances to travel, this isn't such a bad idea, but be sure you leave the gymmies outside. Sundresses are great because they are cool, but avoid anything too short or too low cut. Everyone looks good in sundresses, and in ruah as in life, better to be overdressed than under.

For the first night I would wear something nice but not too dressy. I suggest going to Wal-Mart and buying one of their dresses! I know around here they have the cutest sundresses. They look nice, and they are cheap. For the next night I would just wear a more formal looking dress. I know for me I wore a simple short, black dress for that party. I wouldn't wear black pants since it's going to be hot!

One thing to try is to go to other schools' websites and see if they have a page about rush. You might be able to find some pictures there that will help you out. Almost all schools have the same kind of rush parties, so dress will probably be the same. Also, if you happen to know anyone at your school who has already gone through rush, they may be able to tell you what to wear. If all else fails, when rush starts, ask your rho chi to look at what you want to wear. She can tell you if it's dressy enough. By the way, your rho chi will be an endless source of info about rush and greek life in general. If you have ANY questions, ASK! That's what they're there for. Good luck!

My suggestion about rush clothes is to ask your Rho Chi. She will definitely know what the norm is for clothes for rush at your campus. For instance, here at University of Houston, it is like 100 degrees during rush, so you'd dress differently than if you were up north or something. Also, very important...make sure you wear clothes that are comfortable to sit in and that won't creep up or overexpose you when you sit (short skirts may look cute while standing, but hoochie when you sit!). Also, you might want a little cardigan or something that you can wear if the air conditioning gets too cold...if you don't need it, your Rho Chi can hold it for you so you don't have to lug it around. Also, I would steer clear of wearing white, 'cause you never know what you might drop on yourself, sit on, etc. and you don't want stains to show easily. I hope this helps!

Thanks everybody! As usual, the advice is wonderful. I just wish someone would go through my wardrobe and tell me exactly what to wear during rush week. I don't think I'm going to have to buy any more outfits, now I'm just concentrating on my pref night dress. But, I'm just worried I'll be cut from all of the sororities before pref night, but that's another story I guess I could always wait until the day of prefs to buy that dress!!

A good guideline for Recruitment attire is the UF Panhellenic website. They have pictures of appropriate clothing for each round. I'm sure that Recruitment there is similar to most others in dress, length, and rounds.

Everyone is telling the girls that they should check their panhellenic websites. Any girls attending the university of northern co shouldn't bother. I went to check it out- there are no pictures and nothing about rush at all. I am in a sorority and I am disappointed that panhellenic hasn't put together a page. I'm not blaming panhellenic, but the webmaster needs to get it together. Also my school's site sucks anyway. I searched greek life and they only have DTD and Sigma Chi's webpages. No sororities. It is bad bad bad. So some girls attending different schools may have the same problem knowing what to wear ectera for rush. Anyway my point is : some web pages aren't up to par so the best bet is to talk to your rho chi.

OK everyone in retail, don't take my head off. If you are really unsure about what to wear and have to buy clothes, do so - buy more than you need to - but LEAVE THE TAGS ON till you decide what you are wearing. If you go to whatever your local May or Federated dept store branch is, they usually have no trouble accepting returns. And I know from experience that at some schools stores where you can get decent/appropriate clothing are 30-40 miles away, or very high priced for what you get.

Better to go up to school with more than you need, ask your Rho Chi what is appropriate, and then go home and sheepishly say to your mom "uhh....I have to take 10 sundresses back to Kaufmann's." Trust me she'll understand.

I am just going to tell you what I wore last year when I rushed and you can just pick and choose. This might be easier than vague descriptions....
round 1: I wore a white skirt from Aeropastle and a blue t-shirt and Dr.Scholls sandals. I fit right in. Not too dressy not too shappy
round 2: I had a long blue wrap around skirt that I wore with a white t-shirt and blue flip flops. And I am not talking dressy flip flops I am talking comfortable Wal-Mart flip flops.
round 3: Just a little sun dress with white tennis shoes...like keds. That's right keds. You're feet and your face will hurt..at least something can be comfy.
round 4 (preferance): I wore a red dress, but the list they gave us suggjested black cocktail dress. A lot of girls wore black, the red definatly made me stand out.

The main point is to be comfortable and just have fun. Whatever you pick will be fine. I hope the list helps everyone out there who is going through rush. Good luck to all of you!

On my campus, I think all of the sororities wear black dresses for Preference parties, so I would suggest that you don't wear black. Like SigKap said, a brighter color will make you stand out.

the "casual but a bit dressy" thing can be confusing. One good standard is something you'd wear to a nice dinner out with your parents. That way, you've got classy, dressy, and not skanky. Always watch out for skankiness, you're going to rush, not to a club.

Thanks again ya'll for all of the advice. This is really really helping me. Sorry it took me so long to thank everyone, I feel bad, but I just got back from vacation. I just got my dad's permission to charge 3 rush outfits on the credit card-so needless to say I'm heading out to shop on Monday. And thanks to everyone's advice, I know what to look for. Anyways, need to check out the UF Panhellenic website for some pictures... I just wish my school's Panhellenic would put up pictures.
