Hey princessgin,

I'm going to be rushing for the second time this fall, and AXOPrincess gave me some super good advice. She said to get yourself in a mindset like you're going to a party where you're meeting a bunch of your parent's friends or something. So just be gracious and confident and smile! I totally feel better now that I can plan on doing that, so hopefully it will help you too!

Wishinhopin- good advice, but princesgin is already in a sorority. That is why she is a rusher. This too will be my first year as a rusher. I think the best thing is to remember how you felt during rush and what made you comfortable. Treat the girls the way you were/wanted to be treated during rush.

Well I feel silly now! Although, come to think of it, I'm sure that advice would work either way!

There is no need to feel silly and yes your suggestions can still work. As much as rushees wants to impress us we want to impress them. We want to add sisters to our chapters. We want rushess to like us and feel welcome too.

I was actually MORE nervous as a rusher than as a rushee! I was so worried that I would do something that would get my sorority a rush infraction or say something stupid or not represent my sorority well. My way of breaking the ice during the first round of rush parties was to say to my rushee, "I don't know about you, but I am so nervous!" It helps to ease the tension a bit, and it puts the rushee at ease b/c she knows that you're just as nervous as she is. And once you master the first round of parties, you'll be fine with the rest. I still had a little trouble with good "pref conversation," but hopefully I am getting better. I just feel stupid b/c saying stuff like, "Do you feel like you've found a home?" is just like total cheese to me!

Just be sincere, and relax! The rushees will probably be far more nervous than you! Try and deviate from the standard questions, they were boring then, and they still are. Have interesting conversations, it'll make the rushee and your house more memorable.
As for pref, I know what you mean by cheesy (sp?). I find it easier to talk about why I think she'd be a great addition etc, than to ask her, and keep her from the awkwardness of "umm, no I don't feel at home!"

Hi y'all! This year will also be my first time as a rusher. I came to join my sorority through COB, so I never even had the formal rush experience! However the advice from GC is great. I can't wait to go back to school and see all my sisters again!!

Oh man! This is going to be my 1st formal rush on *the other side* : oooohhhh, aaahhhh:: I'm REALLY excited but really nervous! I have our rush chair nerous, too, because at our first rush workshop we had to rush each other. Of course I just couldn't take it seriously so I started swearing up a storm and basically doing every single thing I shouldn't do. She was going to have a heart attack. Guess I better buckle down and get to work...:-)

Thanks for all the help guys *Harmony* I'm gonna have to start working, too. At our rush workshop I was lost in all the songs... Hopefully, I'll get everything down before it 's too late.
