Tell me about your chapter....
Hey all!
I will admitt that I visit gc on a daily basis while I visit other discussion boards. I'm always sad that nobody posts in the Sigma Alpha Sections. SO to change all that I'm going to try to come up with an interesting topic for discussion on a daily basis.
Today I want to hear about everyones chapter!
I'm a member and the 1st V-P of the Gamma chapter at Michigan State University! I rushed the spring and am SO excited about Sigma Alpha! Our chapter got a house this past year and we are working hard to improve our lovely home! We still have a single room available if you know anyone at MSU thats looking for a place to live
Gamma is working hard allready to have a GREAT rush, 12 girls graduated in May and we are looking to grow.
Gamma had adopted a funny tradition, we have made our chapter mascot the rubber duck. Our big philanthropy project each spring is a duck race down the Red Cedar River that flows right through the campus. People buy ducks then at noon we throw them into the river and watch them race. Our house is decorated in ducks, our families are named after ducks, one bathroom in the house is ever fully decorated with rubber ducks, it really is so cute LOL We also have pass the duck (It's a huge fluffy duck stuffed animal)at each meeting where we tell about our week good or bad, and any big news like internships, etc.
I know some chapter are part of the greek system on their campus. At MSU we ar not considered part of the greek system. Some of the girls would like to pursue going greek and some want to stay like we are. I think it will be a long time if we do go greek at MSU. I really would love to see Sigma Alpha be part of npc nation wide
Gamma also loves to hang out with Farmhouse and AGR. We love the boys! AGR live just over a block from us and we always go over and pull pranks and steal their composite (it's not just an MC thing either LOL) we also have dinners with Farmhouse and usually make our homecomming float with them. They too love to pull pranks on us like t-ping our house for formal, and decorating out windows with shaving creme.
One newly adapted item st Gamma is the grill on the back porch. OUr alumni donated teh grill after a homecomming BBQ and we LOVE it. All semester and summer we have decided that veggie packets is the meal of choice. We all sit on the porch, grill, talk, and it's a good time to bond with your sisters durring the week. All in all Gamma loves to have fun and we love our sisters and organization!
If any of you are ever near MSU please come visit the house and meet your sister at the Gamma chapter!
Now it's your turn, I want to hear about your chapter, if you have a house, are part of the greek system on campus, funny traditions, etc...

I don't think any of the girls at the chapter spend as much time as I do online LOL I'm going to mention gc as a tool and resource for our e-board and h-board. I hope they will be as excited about it as I am!
I would also love to hear anyones stories, feel free to share yours

Great job Allie!! Be patient. The posts will come.
I'm an alumni member of the Univeristy of Connecticut chapter, and I was an active member of the Eta chapter. I'm sure some things have changed over the years at Eta, but I'll share a few of my best memories.
1. Gavel Talk- I'm sure other chapters do the same thing (with Gamma they pass the duck). After meeting we would pass the gavel and share something good, bad, or exciting that happened to us during the week. It was nice to hear from everyone and be able to share our feelings too.
2. Ag Days- This was our big philanthropy project. For a couple days in May, we invited children from elementary schools out to learn about the different kinds of animals, how to plant seeds, and learn a bit about where their food comes from. Then they got to eat some ice cream from the Dairy Bar. It was great to see the excitement in their faces.
3. Day trips- Sometimes it was a picnic in the park... other times a trek to the country line dancing place. It was always a ton of fun though to spend time with the sisters. Alumni are great at this one too.
Can't wait to hear from the other chapters.
Sisters,
Robin

hi
Hi Allie! This is my first time on this site.
My name is Heather McCarron, and I am currently the president of the Alpha Gamma Chapter at Southern Illinois Univesity at Carbondale. I rushed in the fall of 2000. We are a small chapter here at SIU, and we have lost a lot of girls at graduation this May. In the past, mostly transfer students have rushed our sorority. I rushed as a freshman, but the rest of my class were juniors, so they are on their way out. This coming semester, I want to recruit more freshman to help strengthen our chapter. I would like to see members stay around for longer than 2 years. That way, they can pass on experience and knowledge to newer members. Any recruitment ideas are welcome!
We are involved with panhellenic here at SIU. In the beginning, I was told that relations were a little "strained," but this past year, I have found that the leaders of the other fraternities and sororitites are always willing to help, and never forget about our sorority. I have made many friends, and work closely with our panhellenic and intergreek leaders. They realize we operate a little differently than they do, and they keep me posted on their recruitment dates and rules. We also do activities with the other Greeks. One of my favorites was a joint Halloween costume party with the gentlemen of Sigma Nu. There were a lot of interesting costume that night! I think that being involved with the Greek system has helped our recruitment because many girls majoring in agriculture want to be a part of what the Greek system has to offer. We can get them involved with the system and cater to professionalism in agriculture at the same time.
We have a lot of good times down here in Southern Illinois. The scenery is beautiful and the weather isn't too bad. Some days, you can be witness to all four seasons on the same day! Our chapter also has a lot of colorful characters and I hope to share this site with them.
Hopefully this fall some of us will be headed south-to Texas. None of us left has ever attended a National Convention, and I think it will be a good experience for everyone!
Sigma Alpha Sisterhood is the best,
Heather

Hey from Virginia Tech!
This is my first time posting on here, so if I don't get it exactly right I apologize.
I really enjoyed reading about your chapter-it's so interesting to see the things that work at other places. I really believe we have so much to learn from each other.
I'm the current president here at Tech. What caught my eye the most about your post was the part about your new house. Our chapter has been on campus for 10 years and we don't have a house yet. But that's something that most of our actives are interested in looking into. What was the process like to get yours? Did you rely on alumnae support or fundraising of your own? About how long did it take you?
Thanks so much...
Liza

Whoo Hoo!
It's about time this thread started to roll.
Hether- I have a random story to share with you. Alpha Gamma Girls Rock! My pledge class was the Alpha Gamma class and we shook things up at our chapter. Six AWESOME girls joined and we all have leadership roles in our chapter for this year. So let you cahpter know....
ALPHA GAMMA GIRLS ROCK!
Just had to pass along the info for you incase you didn;t know that about your chapter
Liza- How we managed to get a house was by doing all the work ourselves. I have been told that the girls looked at houses and chose one, for the time being we rent, but out alumni is trying to help us save and buy a house. Gamma NEEDS a pereminate home at MSU
Feel free to drop me an e-mail or PM (ANYONE) I would love to meet more of my sisters

Hey from the Alpha Psi Chapter
Hey Ladies! This is the Alpha Psi Chapter President. I don't have too much to say since we were just FINALLLY activated in April. (YEAH!!!!) It has taken us a long time to get to where we are, but you will all be meeting us in Texas come October. We plan on taking as many sisters as we can.
We are trying to plan our first rush for next semester, which is quite challenging. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. We aren't involved in Panhel here at Cornell...I don't think we will get involved with it, at least not in the near furture. We don't have a house, though when one of us wins the lottery here soon, we are planning on purchasing a small farm/estate ajacent to campus. Just kidding! We are trying to plan on how to save for a house, but right now we don't have enough money to really do anything on the issue. We have been daydreaming about the idea, but houses around here are all huge, older, and expensive.
We are enjoying Ithaca's gorgeous weather, and if you haven't visited us yet, you should make a trip up. It's worth the drive. If you have any questions, suggestions, advice, or just want to talk, drop me a line at sjp32@cornell.edu.
Laters,
Sara

Alpha Gamma Chapter
Hi All!
As a founder of the Alpha Gamma chapter, I was glad to hear that the good times still continue at SIUC. I'm also glad to hear that the relationship with Panhellenic and IGC has continued to improve through the years. I also wanted to share one of the lesser known traditions of the founders. Every week after our meeting, we would go to Steak N Shake. We always sat at the same tables and had the same waiter who knew exactly what each of us wanted without asking. Going to SNS every week was a great way for us to catch up on the things happening in each other's lives. To this day when I go to lunch with Jeri Ann, one of the other founders, we usually go to SNS and order the same things we ordered in college. I'm looking forward to seeing all the actives and alums this fall at Homecoming and maybe we can work a trip to SNS into the schedule.
In Sisterhood,
Stacey

HOWDY from Clemson!!
It's Katie the President of the Tau Chapter here at Clemson! I haven't visited the site much this summer, but I'm thrilled to see that you girls have kept it going!
I love the rubber duck thing! That is way too cute! I am so jealous that all these other schools are allowed to have houses! Our chapter personally cannot afford it and also in the great state of SC more than 4 girls living in a house is considered a "brothel" so getting a house for a sorority is a challenge!
Going Panallenhic is also something that we have discussed. How hard is the process and how well do you all relate with the other greeks on campus? It is also extremely hard for us to do things with other greeks like AGR since we are a dry group and most fraternities are far from it!
Sounds like all is well in SA world! Keep me posted!

[COLOR=darkblue]
greetings from the Chi Chapter!! We up here in Morgantown at West Virginia University have been going through a few leadership changes (our last president is heading out to OSU for Vet School...WOOHOO GO NATALIE!!) We are soo proud of her
We have started the semester off with a university wide student organizations fair where we turned out to be a hit! (i think it might have been cause we had the best candy ) and from that night we got 17 sign ups with 3 who already wanna join! how great is that!?! We are now almost finished in getting rush all together and trying new events like maybe a talent show night, which if it actually works...will be loads of fun; maybe a cookout with our AGR chapter...what a great group of guys they have turned out to be..
We have managed, amazing so, to have biweekly study sessions in our student union, a central place on campus where we have a room with tables, chairs, white/chalk board....they have just started, but I think that they will be a hit and the sisters will find them benefical instead of a hassle...I am just excited we were able to get rooms two nights a week for the entire semester
And now we are talking about Nationals...we have overwhelming interest in attending and in driving the 20 hours to get there...but we feel it will be well worth it
I am sure there is more to come!!!

Fun loving sister of the Chi chapter

Hi! I'm from the Alpha Upsilon chapter at Murray State University in Kentucky. I am the current chaplin here and a member of the Alpha class. We're pretty new here at Murray and aren't part of the panhillenic stuff... We're happy right where we are. I have got an awsome group of sisters and consider it a privilege to be part of our group. We're doing spring rush and can't wait to meet our beta class (as soon as they come along) we have had an overwhelming response of girls wanting to know more about us, so I suppose we've done something right. Being the newest professional sorority on campus, we still have some things to learn, but our philanthropic event, the Murray St. School of Agriculture Womanless Beaty Pagent, has been a real hit... despite the long name. We get all of our "ag boys" together and dress them up in prom dresses/school uniforms/flowerdy moomoos and wigs and let them strut their stuff on stage. This past year, I think we had a representitive from every fraternity on campus. I think that it is a great opportunity to get our name out on campus. We're learning fast how to do things and how not to do them, plus having a lot of fun on the way. On October 6th, it will be our one year anniversary of being on campus!!!! Woo Hoo and GO RACERS!
