Question Baby Shower Favors??

Any of you ladies ever give a baby shower? I'm co-hosting one for a dear friend at the end of the month and need some ideas for favors. Thanks!

I have never held a baby shower and the only one I went to didn't really have favors...but they did have a word scramble game to see who got the most in a minute and I won a small scrap book for a baby (YIKES).

I tell you what though, I'd check like Ivilliage.com under their parenting stuff and I bet you would find some resources and ideas!

Hope that helps!

Sorry to be an ignoramous but what are "baby shower favors"?
Is that kind of like "loot bags" for the guests? Or do you play games at the shower and the winners get prizes (i.e. favors)? Please explain, I am confused!

They're little gifts the hostess gives shower guests, I guess to thank them for coming. For example at one of my wedding showers, my friend had little boxes of Godiva chocolates with tags tied to them that said "Showers of Happiness for Tracy and John". But I don't want to spend THAT much! lol

Thanks Hootie, I'll give it a try!

Go to a local homemade chocolate/candy shop. They can probably make cute lolipops in the shapes of rattles, pacifiers etc. A Cookies by design place is also good.
You can also go to a craft store (in Miami there is a store called Diamonds that is good for this) and buy inexpensive figurines and write on them with a silver or gold paint pen or attach ribbon printed with their name/date.

There were no favours at the last shower I went to, but we played plenty of games, and the prizes were little, pretty, scented candles. I'm not sure where they got them, but they couldn't have been too expensive. There were enough so that, by the end of the evening, everybody had won something.

Not really a favor, but I saw something cute. Have little personal cakes made in the shape of baby blocks... frosted in white with pink and blue letters on each side! It's so adorable!

The last two baby showers that I attended had tiny baby bottles filled with jelly beans and chocolate baby carriages and bottles on sticks. If you are feeling industrious, you can buy molds and make the chocolate candies yourself.

I like the candle idea a lot -- the last baby shower I attended had candles as favors, and I actually use mine and enjoy it. At one shower I attended, they gave everyone a picture frame, which was very nice but could get expensive.

I have to say that ultra baby related favors really creep me out. I think that it's always better to go with something elegant (like a regular old scented candle) that people can actually use. Not everybody is into baby stuff, and while I'm sure they appreciate the fact that it's a baby shower, they might not necessarily want something that screams BABY all over it. Of course, maybe that's just me and my baby phobia...

The last shower that I went to I received a couple candles and some of the small bottles of lotion from bath and body works. I thought it was really nice.

I'm planning a baby shower for a dear friend/sorority sister at the end of the month as well, and we haven't decided what the favors will be...the theme is "Alice in Wonderland" so we may provide little petite fours (that have a sign that says "Eat Me" of course) or we may do something like a pack of small playing cards. There are many gift items inspired by "Alice" so we'll make a decision in the next few days.

I know someone who gave VHS/DVD movies as party favors that were "baby" inspired: "Looks Who's Talking I & II", "Baby Talk", Looks Who's Having a Baby", "Three Men and a Baby", etc. You get the point--the cool thing about the favor is that it's cute, without being over the top screaming "baby."

Other showers have given more "baby"-type gifts. Other party favors I have given (not at showers per se but...a key chain inspired by the party's theme (I did a sun, moon, stars party and found great key chains), candles, bulk tea with tea cookies and a strainer (so all the women can take a "time out" from the stress in their lives).

I'll try and think of more lata.

Shelacious are you a party planner? You've thrown some beautiful events!

I also agree with not going "baby crazy" one of my very good friends was like Miranda on SATC, she did not want pink and blue or anything babyish AT ALL. Okay, so instead we did a tribute to her favorite pregnancy activties, eating ice cream and renting movies. Our invitations looked like Blockbuster cards but with her name in yellow. We had a few tvs in the room playing her favorite movies, and we did an amazing sundae bar. For favors we gave everyone Jiffypop popcorn and a coupons for a free rental of a movie and a coupon for ice cream and Haagen Daaz.
We had a great time and it was actually really affordable and best of all she totally loved it.
