Rush from the sisters side

So I know that we are all excited to here about how the rushes feel when they are going through rush. But here is my perspective from the sisters side because it can be just as hard. You are opening up something very sepcial for alot of people to see and you hope that they can appreciate it like you do. So here goes my story.....
I am a 4th year sorority sister. I go to UIC where our cmapus is very large and our greek system is very small. We have 3 NPC sororities and 4 IFC Frats. Each sorority usually has about 20 girls. We had 22 last semester and then we had 11 girls graduate so that is one half of our chapter. Likely for us the girls that were left were truely dedicated. I am so nervous because I have watched the other sororities change and grow and I hope that the rushess are not turned off by our small numbers. All summer we have been planning rush-- some thing that was usually saved until the last min. ---- Sorority tea is our first big thing. Every sorority sets up a table in a conference room of the school and decorate however you like. This happened last night. We had 60 girls there which was great. They all seemed so great and I would take any of them at this point. We had a power point presentation-- we were the only ones-- it was something new we thought of for this year. At the end eac of the sorority pres. Get up and give a speech. My sorority decided to be different this year and we did a fashion show. We had 2 MC's and each sister designed a shirt with a word such as Social, Scholarship and so on, as they walked down the runway we described what we do for each of these, I think that everyone was impressed and it made us stand out. I am soooo nervous. I hope that we get some really good girls this semester. We are working hard for our next party which is on Sept. 4th. So far away. Rush from the PNM side is exciting to hear about, but it's good to know how hard the active members work to get those new members! Good luck with rush and keep us posted!

Recruitment can be frustrating from every point - PNM, Active AND from an Adviser standpoint! But it can also be the most fun you can ever have, as well.

It sounds like you are off to a great start and your fashion show is sure to get rave reviews, Michelle.

Coming from a small chapter - I know that every effort you make is truely a labor of love. But let me tell you about a chapter. (Hopefully it will give you some inspiration.) They are on a campus where total is over 85. Due to graduation and a major alcohol violation the chapter was left with 12 members. In less than 5 years that chapter is busting at the seems with campus total. IT CAN BE DONE! Don't forget to share that love you have and let all see it. From Formal Recruitment to PR activites, Philanthropies, other greek events and CORs - you can get the members you need to get your chapter where it can be!

Don't ever forget to motivate each of your sisters and they in return - because that'll help get you to your goal!

HEY I GO TO UIC TOO!

Boy do I feel you about the small greek system, but sometimes don't you think smaller is better?!? I don't know, but I do feel like as a greek system, we're pretty close. Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that an interest for us went to your sorority tea and said it went awesome. In trying to broaden her choices she actually felt some connection to one of the sororities at the tea - which is awesome!

I know it's stressful, aKDPhi is pretty stessed too! But, I'm sure it'll go well... BTW I hope you and your sisters can drop by our party with Sigma Lambda Beta on Friday the 6th! If you need more info, pm me!

Tonight is the first rush party. I am way excited. I know that there were alot of girls who could nto comeo ut on the first night and they will be here tonight. I am hoping that we come out of rush with 20 girls- never happened at our school- My sisters and I have been working really hard but I also hear the the other sororities have been practicing. I love being in a sorority and I especially love rush time. Tomorrow I will post and tell you all about the parties and the women,

Yes, I'd love to hear about how it is going for you. I advise chapters in the Northeast so its fairly common to be advising at a large school with a small Greek system.
How did your Greek system advertise rush? Was your tea successful? You sound like you got off to an amazing start with your fashion show/powerpoint pres. Good for you!
Also, which sorority are you in and what are the other chapters on campus?
Sorry for all the questions, just answers the ones you like, I'm a real rush thread addict so take my 20 questions with a grain of salt.
