Crush mixers?
I have looked at the social thread and I wanted to know about the crush or date mixer? I am social chair and I would like to put one together for the fall but I am unsure of what it consists of or even where to start. Please help me and it would be greatly appreciate your comments.

Okay, for a basic crush... plan a social function at a cool third-party-vendor (of course!) and let all the girls know about it, the theme, the dress code, etc...
Then, you can do one of two things... have them give you the name and phone number of the guy/guys they want to invite (we were always allowed to invite three guys each... better ratio!) and you can call and invite them, but don't tell them who has a "crush" on them. Or, what I think is better and what my chapter did was we would print cute invitations... each girl got three to hand out. You could secretly leave them on a the windshield of your crush, have someone else give it to him, etc... or just give them to guy friends that you wanted to invite.
Once at the function, girls can either reveal who invited who or everyone can just have a fun time together.
Another cute thing I heard of, was one chapter printed tee-shirts for their invites (kind of expensive though)... each girl gave them to their three guys (secretly or not) and the guys were told to wear them on campus the day of the event... the girls wore them that day too... kind of a cool PR idea and a great way for guys to show off!

For our Crush Dances all the girls get to invite 3 or 4 guys and we list their names in our campus newspaper in the edition before the dance. So say the dance is on a Wednesday night, we put it in the paper that comes out the Friday before. It's great for putting the invite list in scrapbooks etc. And you can make it all fancy and stuff. Most of our sororities say, " The ladies of XYZ invite the following gentlemen to their crush dance, date, time, place."
There are also some really cute quotes, "Roses are red, Violets are blue, an XYZ has a crush on you." or "It's not love, it's not lust get a grip boys it's just a crush." Just some ideas I've seen around Murray

a sorority at my school, did this, which i thought was cute.. the sisters gave the name of the guy they had a crush on. Then several sisters went to the guys and "borrowed" one of their ties, so the sisters all wore their crushes ties that night, and the guys were able to figure out who had a crush on them.. I would love to have a crush party for my chapter, but we are so small and everyone is dating people that don't go to my school, so it wouldn't be as much fun.

yea at my sorority there are a lot of people who have serious boyfriends (we even have some engaged!) so I don't know if it would work. I know with me when they asked me for my three guys it would be : mike, mike and mike (my boyfriend). I mean I could always invite my guy friends that would be kewl. We do have a good number of single gals. So it could be a crush/friends party. Hmm maybe I will pass the idea along to our social chair

Well, at our crush party we only invite one girl each. one of the brothers will invite her and it's a mystery. When the girls get here we line them up and serenade them, then give a rose to the girl that we invited. we usually have it around valentines or so. It's quite fun indeed.

We do crush parties and I love them. First of all eash of the girls can invite 2 people or get extras from people that aren't going if they want more. Then we have a list in the chapter room and we right down the age and fraternity of GDI. You are responsible for paying for a t-shirt and a glass crush bottle. To invite the guys we go around and serenade each fraternity and then in the middle we say, The women of Sigma Kappa would like to invite the following me of XYZ to our crush party then we read off names and each is given a t-shirt wraped around the bottle with a cute invite tied to it. We usually have a huge turn out at the houses because it's a big deal to get invited. For GDI's we usually send 3-4 girls to serenade them at their house because the whole chapter would be overwhelming. I love seeing the t-shirts on campus even if it's a little expensive and it's great PR.
Usually the guys know who invited them but you don't have to tell them if they don't know. It's a lot of fun!

Something I have heard that was done in the past for inviting their "Crush".. they would go to a store and buy those "Crush" sodas.. then attach a small invite to the soda can.
The girls would exchange "Crushs" and give the sodas to the guys they had a crush on. (Example, I will give Jane's crushes their invite/soda and Beth will give my crush their soda/invite) so it's a mystery who invited who.
Something else you could do is a "Mystery Date" theme party... Maybe go with a 70's/Scooby Doo theme ? (I'm not too wild about 70's colors.. but it's an idea ) Maybe if your chapter makes shirts for their events you could have the Mystery Bus on the back for a Mystery Date party?

I've noticed that for a lot of the sororities that have posted, you guys would invite 3 or 4 guys each. With us, we only invite one female. So my question is.... do the guys there feel akward that it is such a huge sausage fest?

For our crush parties, we are handed a bunch of paper invitations and we can just hand them out to any guy we want. they tell you the basic info: dress code, place, time with which sorority and that way you can just hand them out around campus to random guys and see what you get that night.

That is too cool. We're goin to be having a crush party this fall, and I'm one of the people planning it. We already decided that we will get tshirts, but my question is how do the smaller chapters pay for them? Social's budget is only $75, and usually when we have mixers, everyone pays for stuff themselves. I love all your guys' ideas, especially the invitation with the Crush bottle. Very cute!

At our date parties, each sister would invite one man. The men would be told about the event, but not who specifically had invited them. If a particular man was unavailable that night, the sister who'd invited him would provide a second choice.
At the event, it would be revealed who invited whom. One year, everyone got keychains, and the men had to find whoever had the matching keychain - the keychains then became the favors. Another year, the men were asked to wear ties, and as they arrived, they handed their tie to the social chair and went into one room... we were in another room, and the tie was given to the sister who'd invited him... and when everyone had arrived, the men were brought in and had to find their ties (and hence their dates).
We'd hang out for a while, have some non-alcoholic drinks, then go out to dinner at a restaurant.
The arrangement worked very well, because sisters who had boyfriends or fiances simply invited their SO's. Obviously, those guys would know in advance who'd invited them...

I want my chapter to have a crush party so badly...I'm going to start harassing our social chair right now! We were thinking about it last year and it never happened. Anyway, I had heard the tie idea that mmcline mentioned from a friend and I love it! Also, for the multiple invites, we were going to have girls list 2 or 3 guys and have the guys RSVP to our social chair, so that if some girl's crush couldn't make it, we could go to her second choice, etc. so she wouldn't get there and not have a date.

Yes, yes and yes again.
Every sorority crush party i've been to at A&M has basically been done the same way.
The girl who is doing the inviting gives a list of 3 or 4 names to her social chair along with the fraternity or student organization of the guys. The social chair and her committee then go around to the different fraternity or organization meetings and hand out paper invites and t-shirts and basically tell the guys a little bit about the party, (i.e. the theme, where to meet, what to wear, etc.) This is pretty much the same way we handle our Bird Bash crush party also.
As for the party being a sausage fest, you kinda understand that if you get invited to one, it's going to be like that. For me, unless its a girl that i know before hand and am interested in, i will usually just go and have fun with my bros that also got invites. The times that friends of mine have 'crushed' me, or when my real lil sis gets one of her pledge sister's to crush me, i go and spend time with them. It's basically an excuse to party with your friends in whatever sorority it happens to be.
My sister's crush party is by far my favorite, as it is the AXO Crawfish Crush. They rent out a bar and have a TON of steamed crawfish and potatoes, corn, etc. DEFINATELY my fave crush party of the year

-I do like the paper invites though, i've kept all of mine and they are crammed in the pages of my photo album
