UNH Zeta!
Well in case you have not seen it, we lost the New Hampshire Zeta!
What I am being told is that they owed International $25,000.00!
Brothers this should not happen!
Why did it happen?
Brothers walking away with a dept. If they do that, it falls on each member of the Chapter! Dont let Brothters get out of line on paying Bills!
Risk Management Insurance costs going up.
International charging Zetas incorrectly like they did LX Z! ( They) National Were not updated in their records of current membership. Charging for Insurance in the wrong areas. Yep some areas are higher!
It is a two prong state of attack! You make sure that your facts are correct when you send to National!
Question Bills! We all know that it cost money for HDQ to run but if you do not owe it then ask!
It cost Money for us to operate our Chapters!
National, getting the facts and updating and correcting them when they should be is up to the chapters and making sure they are correct!

Absolutely Tom,
That is the quickest way to get into debt withthe GF. Accurate membership records are a must. What often happens is that the Gamma fills out the roster, say Steve has left school. Marks that on his roster sheet. Sends to IHQ. The dont charge for that semester, but the following semester, IHQ thinks he might have returned to the chapter, so they relist all the "left schoolers" for the last 3 semesters. If you dont send the roster back by the deadline, you get charged for everyone on the roster. So while you might only have a chapter of 35 men, you pay for 60. Happened to us in the mid 90's. Its HELLA pain in the ass trying to get the numbers back in order. Sometimes I suspect the GF drags its heels on these things on purpose.
My 2 cents

You know the same thing happened to us a couple of years ago, they said we owed them six grand because of a mess up like that. i really hate the buisness side of the fraternity, drives me crazy.

This a sad part about the Business end of a Fraternity!
We as an International with so many Chapters cannot keep caught with the day to day housekeeping!
This many times puts a burden on the Local Chapter which normally strapped for money have to give money that they are not responsible for!
In this day of Modern Technology it still is done by hand by an over worked individaul to get this placed in the records and files!
Hell, We have been trying to get New Associate Pins for 4 months!
They have been contacted by The Active Chapter and 3 Alums who are willing to pay for them so that we could have them to pin New Assoc.
We have a thing that I do not agree with, in that the Associates when ready to be Activated, go to an old cemetary out of town and have a burying ritual of the pins showing that they are becoming New Brothers!
I am going to try to put a stop to this as if it was me, I would want that pin showing that I earned it with honor!
I do not know of a member of the Local, BX, that I started that does not have either his Active Badge or Pledge Button!
I and International have the only two sets available!
Mine went to the House one time and they ran into trouble. I took them back for safe Keeping and I will keep them untill the day I die. They will then be redonated once again along with my Badge of LXA!
One of thse days, I will have a Associate Pin of LXA to add my collection as never had one and is important to me!
Beleive it or not, I was never an Officer of my Zeta or a member of the Ritual Team. I am sad for that fact as is something that I missed but did things that no one will ever have the experience to do at that end of the Fraternity!
Remember, as each New Associate comes into the fold, we grow!

My chapter keeps the AM pins, that way when an AM joins, he gets a pin immediately. We give them back right before ritual.

UNH fraternity may
get status, home back
By SEAN GOODWIN
Union Leader Correspondent
DURHAM - The suspension of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity may be lifted by
the national organization and the brothers of the fraternity might get to
keep their Madbury Road house after all.
Last week, it appeared the fraternity would have to scramble for housing
this year after the national organization of Lambda Chi Alpha suspended the
fraternity's charter and, in turn, UNH stopped recognizing the fraternity.
According to Tom Helmbock, executive vice president of the national
organization, the charter was suspended because the local fraternity was
$25,000 in debt to the national organization.
UNH and national officials have said that the fraternity has contacted the
national organization and said it will be able to pay the $25,000.
"I'm not sure where they got the money from," said Sean Kay, president of
the UNH Student Senate and the Intrafraternity Council. "But right now we're
talking to UNH and the national fraternity and we'll see what happens."
Officers from the local Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity could not be reached for
comment, but Helmbock said, "I know that they have asked for their status to
be reviewed provided that they paid all of their outstanding debt."
Helmbock said the only reason the charter was suspended was the debt and it
had nothing to do with any behavioral issues. If the debt is paid, the
fraternity's charter will likely be taken off suspension.
"The what-ifs are always there and that's always a threat," Helmbock said
about the possibility of the debt returning. "But if they muster up the
resources, I don't think they'll let this happen again."
According to Helmbock, the students were supposed to leave the house this
week, because once the charter is suspended the local fraternity cannot "act
in our behalf or sign a lease in the name of the fraternity."
Kim Billings, a UNH spokesperson, said the university stopped recognizing
the 84-year-old fraternity once the national organization suspended the
charter.
On Wednesday night, some members of the fraternity destroyed a picket fence
in front of the fraternity house, according to Gregg Sanborn, executive
assistant to the UNH president. "I would consider that behavioral problems,"
he said.
Sanborn said last night that he believes the students are back in the
fraternity house, which is privately owned. The owner does not need UNH
approval to allow the students to live there.
"If the landlord wants to allow them to move back in, there's nothing we can
do about it," Sanborn said.
A final decision on UNH recognition would be coming "sooner rather than
later," according to Sanborn.
The only other issue, according to Kay, is a question about Durham zoning.
Durham's Zoning Officer Tom Johnson could not be reached for comment
yesterday, but in an earlier interview he said that "the permitted use for
that building is as a fraternity. But after probably a year, that will lapse
and they would have to go before the planning board."
An exact number was not available, but Kay said he believes about 25 to 40
students are Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity brothers.
---------
Matt - I hope you will change you're mind.

Jono, that is great news!
My question is, why did they get so damn far behind in the first place!
Maybe this will be a wake up call to make sure you pay yor bills even if they are not right!
But to get this far behind is ignorant!
It can always be hashed out later!
Matt I agree with Jono, you should your mind about being there longer!
The Brothers of BN have one heck of a weekend planned!
Will try to call you Sun Evening!

I'd love to change my mind...but I can't...as High Rho I have to try to get some donations to support my programing and so far I haven't been able to get much...
We had almost 45 alumni come through the house, with many parking on our front lawn, and I recieved exactly 10 dollars in donations from an active brother for selling his tickets, which went to pay for the news letter I printed Sat morning...
Oh well...hopefully some of the ones who said they were going to donate will...
