Post Long Rush

Does anyone else have a long@$$ rush to deal with in the fall? I've mentioned it before, but our rush is like 7-8 weeks long, and gets soooo old. Plus there's all kinds of no contact, closed rush, rules throughout the period, that people break all the time. Anyone else have any experience with this or thoughts on it? I know a 1 week rush would suck to, because of not getting to know the people, but i think 4 or 5 weeks would be much better.

7-8 weeks??? That DOES seem long! I can't say that I'm familiar with that length of time since our girls only have a week of Rush. I feel for you!

When I was in college (around the time of the dinosours)-our rush was about a week long including three rounds of parties including prefs and Bid day.

my feeling is that after 5 weeks or so, both the actives and the rushees are bored with the process. even though we have gotten a few guys in the last couple weeks. i'd say we lost more in that time, people that became uninterested or got schmoozed more by another fraternity and that swayed them. I don't see how guys can still be unhappy with their choice though, and that happens a lot more than you would think

Question

Steve - being a technical institute, do you have really intense hours or class schedules? Does that have anything to do with why rush is so long?

How crazy is that! What could you possibly do for 8 weeks with those guys? I can talk to almost anyone for any length of time but not for that long. There is only so long you can be ON for rushee's. I mean, in eight weeks we teach everything there is to know about the fraternity and have initiation. I guess the good thing is that you can be pretty informal with the guys.

Well, some people are pretty intense about it, but I'm not Freshmen usually take about 18 hours their first quarter, but that's only 4 regular classes and one BS one credit class. If I remember correctly, I had 3-5 hours of class per day, depending on whether I had a lab or not. Most nights I either had my hw done before rush events, or did it afterwards. Weekends were usually free except for Sunday nights, for homework.

As far as stuff to do the entire 8 weeks...we spend the first week "dorm storming" going to their rooms, talking to them, getting a feel for who we like. One weekend is informals, where they get a tour of each house. One weekend is First Formals, interviews and the like, and another weekend is Second Formals, same deal. We have events every weekend that we're allowed, and hang out during the week. We can't be in the dorms after 8pm. Rush is closed Sunday and Monday I think. It's also closed during homecoming.
