Good luck Pi Alpha

While I'm on a posting run

Good luck to Pi Alpha chapter at the University of Louisville during recruitment week. I'm thinking of you and sending lots of cyber-roses your way.

Darcy, have fun doing the skit today--you'll do great!

Roses,
Christin
(a darned biased IIA alumna!)

I can't wait to hear about Pref! Hurrah for wearing red dresses, Pi Alpha wore them for years and I thought red was just stunning. I know you'll all do great, please let us know how it went--and how many new sisters we have on Bid Day!

Roses,
Christin

Hello! Today was bid day and it went pretty well.
We didn't make quota, but no one was surprised at all because quota was set at 30, and we only had 27 on pref night.
We got 9 wonderful new sisters, plus the 5 new members we already had, which makes a great new member class of 14 (largest pledge class since 1997...kind of scary--I'm the NME!!)... We were not disapointed at all.
This rush was kind of weird anyway... everyone made quota except for us and one of the top houses, who only got 18 girls!!
We really got quality women, too. It felt good to see names on other sororities bid lists that we cut the first night for low grades, among other things. It really says something about us that even though we are the smallest chapter on campus, we do not sell out on our values just to make quota.. And I know we will win out in the end.
Speaking of which.. Christin, you know how Pi Alpha has always had the short end when it comes to housing... Well finally something is being done about it and the university approved a new housing plan that will break ground next spring. They are making a 'Greek Park' where most of the sororities and some fraternities will have a suite. The first level will be giant suites , and there will be 3 levels of dorms on top of them. And the best part of all?? They will be bulldozing Greek Row. I think all the AOII's will throw a party that day.. No offence to anyone else, but we have been wanting a house FOREVER and finally some happy median is being found.
We will be able to move into it Fall 2004. Here is the website if you are interested www.pialphahouse.8m.com.

Sorry I wrote so much but it has been an exciting week and I think we are going to do so well this semester!!

talk to you later

Darcy, I'm so glad to see an update! Congrats to all of our newest sisters! You'll be a wonderful NME, they'll learn so much from you. I cannot fathom quota being 30 at U of L. I hate to hear about anyone not achieving quota when numbers are so incredibly high for a campus, ya know?

Thanks for posting the housing link. Like Darcy said, we've been working toward having a house for 20 years at Louisville. The suite IIA is currently housed in is beautiful (and a great improvement from the 1st suite-home of the chapter!!!!) It can be a challenge to be the only chapter unhoused on a campus such as Louisville's. I was CA when we put the presentation together for the vacant lot on greek row a few years ago so I know the amount of work involved to get a "happy median" for all. Where are the other chapters going to be housed once the row is bulldozed? I can't imagine them all having to go into the SAC but I guess that's what they'd have to do? Or are they waiting to bulldoze after the Park is built? Oh well, either way, at least the suite won't be bulldozed

I've been following the progress of this latest housing proposal and am extremely pleased about it. I think it will be a positive for the greek system as a whole there. Anything to promote greek unity is a good thing!

Thanks for posting, Darcy and have a wonderful time with our newest members!

Roses,
Christin
