Question marriage

Hello to all the awesome Chi Omega's~

My question is short, but sweet- can you be married in Chi Omega? I'm rushing right now and I find this chapter to be one of my absolute FAVORITES, so I'm writing to find the answer to this question. I've emailed the NPC and I have had no response, so anything anyone might be aware of I would much appreciate.

Thanks So Much!!

The answer is YES. As long as you are a college student of the age (help me out if I'm wrong) 16 or older, you may rush to become a Chi Omega.
As a matter of fact our Secretary was an older pledge and then got married a year ago this summer. I think her status has since gone Alumn (she's in med school now) but prior too our advisor strongly encouraged us not to rule out a soon-to-be-married person for a position on Executive board.

Best of luck!

Actually, we talked about this in our chapter. The book of rules says that we can't have any pregnant or married girls that are actives in Chi Omega. If this happens, you have to go to alum status. I'm sure the same thing applies if you are going through recruitment.

it really depends on the chapter and the PNM in question..in my chapter we had a member who was married who went thru recruitment during spring COB but i believe they had to get special permission from nationals in order to extend her a bid..

Question just this year...

Actually, just this year during recruitment we had a girl go through who was married and had two kids. We didn't think she was eligible to join, but our advisor did the research and came back saying that the only reason she couldn't join is that she wouldn't be moving into the house (wouldn't be fulfilling her financial obligation to us). The weird thing was that when we discussed it with the girl, she said she was willing to move into the house--which of course points out poor priorities so it wasn't like we were ever going to take her anyway *geez*

Thing is, I was pretty sure that marriage meant going alum--so it's weird that that came up this year.

Hmm.

Hmm.. looks like a little investigation is in need here. I do remember the rule that you had to be 16, but I don't remember anything about marriage (I know we have a ceremony for announcing an engagement!). I'll try and email someone from National and get back to you. I don't see why you couldn't!

I checked with somebody from Nationals who said: "You can be married and be a member... the only stipulation mentioned is that if you get married as an active you have the option to go alumn prior to graduation." However, you still may want to be sure you and the GH of the chapter are on the same page, as you can see from this thread there is a little confusion even among us.
