Couple Arrested for Sex in Cathedral
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A Virginia couple was arraigned on
Friday after they were arrested for allegedly having sex in a
vestibule of St. Patrick's Cathedral while parishioners
worshiped nearby.
Loretta Lynn Harper, 35, of Alexandria, and her boyfriend,
Brian Florence, 37, of Quantico, were charged with obscenity in
the third degree and public lewdness.
Another man, Paul Mercurio, 42, of New York, who allegedly
engaged in a live radio commentary on the sex act, also was
arraigned on a charge of acting in concert with the couple.
The three were arrested on Thursday.
The couple had entered a radio contest of the WNEW
afternoon talk program, "Opie and Anthony," a police spokesman
said. As part of the live show, six couples were given a list
of 54 different high-risk locations at which to have sex in the
city, including St. Patrick's on Fifth Avenue, and nearby
Rockefeller Center.
An usher observed the couple and also saw Mercurio on his
cell phone allegedly relaying the stunt back to the radio
station, where he worked as a field producer, the police
spokesman said.
Joe Zwilling, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of New York,
called the incident, "Disgusting."

O & A
I turned to the "O&A" show on Friday and the contest was in the beginning stages. I did not listen to the contest in its entirety, only about 5 minutes of it or so. "O & A" ran the same contest last year. I forgot what the couples were competing for (and don't really care ). I wonder what those guys have to say about the couple who got arrested. Did they go down to the police station to bail the couple out? Did they offer any apologies? The couple indeed showed lack of respect or morals for having sex inside of the church
Sadly, unless the show is pulled from the radio, I don't think this will prevent O&A from running another one of these contests in the near future. They pride themselves on being very rebellious.
They can be very funny at times, but this just went waaaaay over the top.

O & A out???
It's been reported that Opie and Anthony stand the chance of losing their jobs and having their show pulled from the radio station (WNEW, 102.7 FM, in New York - and in syndication in several other states) because of this latest stunt. The radio station will be airing re-broadcasts of the show until Infinity (the company which owns the station) comes to a decision.

According to The New York Post, the "Opie and Anthony" show was yanked off the air on Monday as WNEW-FM's owner fretted over the shock jocks' promotion of a sex stunt in St. Patrick's Cathedral. Meanwhile, a federal regulator called for possibly revoking the station's license.
Opie and Anthony - whose real names are Anthony Cumia and Gregg Hughes - chuckled about the arrests on their Friday broadcast. But WNEW management apologized for the incident.
Joe Zwilling, spokesman for the Catholic Archdiocese of New York, said "I'll let the FCC determine what it should do. I'm doing whatever I can not to give these two individuals any more free publicity."
The show's producer Paul Mercurio, who used a cell phone to provide live, on-air commentary of the frolic was also ticketed on a charge of acting in concert with public lewdness.
