Do you like Kevin Smith Movies?
I do. I was just wondering if you guys did too. Here's my order of best to worst:
1) Clerks
1) Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
3) Mallrats
4) Chasing Amy
5) Dogma (I'm not religous so it kinda flew over my head...plus I was extremely blitzed when i watched it)

They seemed to loose a lot of their edge after Mall Rats... Kind of sold out so to speak. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back I thought wasn't that great... Although I loved Clerks and Mall Rats.
Chasing Amy was okay... wasn't what I expected from him but I guess it was smart for him to prove he wasn't 1-dimensional.. Dogma I think is funnier if you're a Catholic...

1) Clerks
2) Chasing Amy (I think girls like this movie much more than guys.)
3) Mallrats
4) Dogma (I thoght I'd enjoy it much more if I were blitzed at the time.)
I've never seen Jay and Silent Bob. Jay annoys me way too much to watch a movie where he's a main character.
I just wish Kevin Smith would make a movie that didn't involve any actors that he's worked with before. Then, I think, we'd know if he can actually direct or if the actors have been carrying him the whole time.

Kevin Smith's next movie will be Jersey Girl, and won't involve Jay and Silent Bob.
I ama huge fan (yes I own all of the special edition DVDs- and what of it? lol) and really I think all his movies are brilliant, but if I have to rank them it goes like this:
1. Dogma- former Catholic right here! echoes a lot of my feelings on religion.
2. Chasing Amy- didn't see the beginning the first time I saw it and hated it, but after watching the whole thing I completely got it! Great film!
3. Mallrats- I love Jason Lee. That's my husband and he just doesn't know it yet, lol.
4. Clerks- funny movie- amazing when you consider he made it for under 30,000- just goes to show the power of an amazing script.
5. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back- two words for why this movie goes to last place- Shannon Elizabeth. I thought she sucked! ALthough Matt Damon and Ben Affleck had me rooooolling!

The way I see it, JaSBSB was supposed to be INCREDIBLY chessy (part of the joke), so he needed a really crumby actress who's also eye candy too, hence Shannon Elizabeth.

Oh lord, lol. Did you pay DeltaSigStan to start this thread???
Yeah I dig Kevin Smith movies. Can't wait to see J. LO(!!) in Jersey Girl.
My favorite was Clerks followed by Chasing Amy and Jay and Silent Bob (which I saw for the first time only a few weeks ago).
Mallrats was far too accurate to be hilarious, lol (I used to work in a mall), and Dogma was clever, but too much of an inside joke that I was not privy to. I had to be coached through it, lol.

You're right. Since Kevin Smith thought that this would be the end of the "Jersey movies," he wanted to incorporate all the characters from all the movies and just make it one big fun movie. But now he's coming out with Jersey Girl, so this one should be the end of the series...again.
I have you all beat in the whole fan aspect! In my English class last semester, we did a semester long project where you had to take a subject you liked and analyze the language of it. I analyzed the language of Kevin Smith and his movies. I included the comics, the Clerks cartoons, everything. The project ended up being 93 pages. I know more about those movies than anyone ever should
And I got an A on it too

My fav was Mallrats. In last place, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Shannon Elizabeth just killed the movie for me. For some reason, she just bothers me.

Mallrats is one of my all-time favorite movies. Chasing Amy, which I'm sure is meant to be the most poingant of the movies is my least favorite of the "New Jersey trilogy." I have yet to see Dogma or Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (this one just looks stupid).
The language of Mallrats has crept its way into my everyday vocabulary - if I hear someone has broken up, I'll refer to it as being "in the framing business;" I can recite the whole "cookie stand" bit almost verbatim; my guy and I say we're "retarded for each other," (like Brodie says about Renee). Its just a damn good movie! Maybe I'll go put the DVD on now

What surprises me so much about Mallrats is how poorly it did at the box office, plus how Critics panned it, and how it became somewhat of a cult classic on video.
It's amzing how Gramercy and Universal did so much to contribute to it's demise, plus how much Kevin had to rewrite parts that affected the entire movie. ONE HOUR of deleted scenes!

You dumb bastard, that's not a scooner. It's a sailboat.
Kid - A scooner IS a sailboat, stupid!
YOU KNOW WHAT!?! THERE IS NO EASTERBUNNY!!!

I too love Mallrats. I still haven't gotten a chance to see the DVD, but I will definitely be doing that ASAP. It was on TV recently and it sucked because they had to change all of the dialog. Clerks is a close second in my favorite Kevin Smith movies, and Dogma and Chasing Amy are tied for 3rd. I saw Jay and Silent Bob, but I have no desire to see it again.
I went to the mall this weekend, and every time I ride an escalator, I think: "That kid is back on the escalator again!".

ugh i saw that! after they decided to dub over the real reason why brodie thought that renee broke up w/him, i had to turn it off..it was just too ridiculously censored/changed..i couldn't handle it..and it annoyed me that brandy couldn't say that julie dwyer had the fattest ass, but she could say that TS was being a complete ass..i just got too annoyed
that being said, i'm a huge KS fan..love love the NJ trilogy, i think the man is a genius..i know we've had a thread on this before..but my favorites are actually in the order they were released
1. clerks
2. mallrats
3. chasing amy
4. dogma
5. J&SBSB
i am soooo looking forward to jersey girl

Hey, it's not my fault that others recognise the GENIUS that is Kevin Smith, lol!
Don't hate girl, don't hate!
