Thumbs down Fall Rush !!!

Okay, so I am freaked out. I am going to the University of Kansas in the fall of 2001. I know I want to be part of a sorority, but I feel like I know nothing about it! My sister was a member of Delta Gamma at the University of WI, Madison...so I am going to have her write me a rec. Can anyone give me ANY information on KU's sororities? About anything would be helpful. I am going one weekend in July for orientation...and I picked this week because it is geared to prospective Greek memebers...help!! I don't know what to expect!

I have no idea how the school's website is set up, but maybe you could go to it and hunt around for greek life on there. I know that some of the GLOs on my campus have pages on our school's website, and it's a great way to get some insight into those chapters.

KUGirl,
First off - read my FAQ on the main page of this forum. That will give you a lot of information.

Second - visit the KU site, write down the names of the sororities that are on campus and see if each chapter has a web site. Learn about each chapter AND visit each group's national web site to learn about their history, philanthropy and programs.

Third - write down the questions you want to ask each chapter. Most likely they will be the same questions for all the groups, but maybe not. Review these questions before Recruitment and remember to ask them. By asking specific questions about a chapter's programs, history, etc., it will show that you took the time to learn about that group and that will make you memorable.

Fourth - be open to everything. Yes, your sister is a DG at another school, but the DG chapter at KU might be different entirely from your sister's chapter. Look at all the chapters - compare sisterhood, academics, campus involvement, etc. before making a decision to cut a group.

Fifth - I don't know about KU, but usually schools in the Midwest aren't as heavy on recommendations as the Southern schools. Check with the Greek Life office on campus regarding this. Many larger schools, such as Penn State, have completed eliminated the recommendation process.
