Question A lucky serve or the next A. Ashe?

I don't know how many of you watch tennis, however, there is this 22 year old African American male by the name of James Blake that just won the Legg Mason Tennis Classic on Sunday, August 18, 2002 and he is the first African American male to win since the late great A. Ashe won it in 1973.

My question to you readers is simply this: Are African Americans finally getting equal treatment in the so called white collar sports (Tennis, Ice Skating, golf, etc.) or is the good old boy network still doing a good job keeping them out of the arena?

Being that I'm an ice skater, from my level which is really low girl on the totem pole, it's seems equal at this point. However, I do know a higher level (nationally ranked) AA skater and some of the things he has shared with me make me believe that we still have a long way to go.

As far as tennis, look at the things that Venus and Serena still have to deal with: snubs, snide comments, etc..

No matter what sport or what the arena, if they feel threatned, "The Good Ol'Boys" will always be there

Wink

From what I see, I get the feeling that there will always be someone out there trying to put us down. I know one thing is for sure, and that is that we are learning how to take em down! -Yemaya-
