Brandy: Giving Back

I heard on the radio this morning that Brandy will have a baby shower in Hollywood. But get this, she is donating all gifts she receives to charity.

Willl this become an industry "trend"? I remember when a baby shower was given for Laryn Hill and Holly Robinson-Pete, and there wasn't anything mentioned that they had donated their gifts.

I believe on Tom Joyner, they said she's having two baby showers. One shower she will donate all gifts and donations to charity. The other one is for her and has such items as a Gucci teddy bear, diaper bag, etc. Myra J was like the diaper bags at Target and K-Mart hold diapers and bottles the same way as that Gucci bag and will probably last A LOT longer.

The Tom Joyner Morning Show tells it like it is! I don't know what to make of the whole thing. If the "real" baby shower has items such as Gucci teddy bears and diaper bags, what is the list of gifts for the "charitable" baby shower? Will those gifts also come from the Neiman Marcus registry? It is great to donate the gifts to charity, but what took so long? Underprivileged women have been having babies forever and it takes Brandy to get pregnant to now decide to donate or give stuff to them? The idea of donating should have come up a long time ago. But I am not going to knock it. It's the thougth is all that counts, I guess.

Well I'm sure whatever she donates to charity won't be that bad, the person(s) receiving it will be grateful none the less. I've never heard of anyone donating gifts from a baby shower (fame or not). I think it's a good idea..especially when most of the time, some people end up with too much stuff that babies will never wear (that happened to my godson and my neice...they had an abundance of clothes and other items, that ended up being given away or exchanged for something more useful).

Here's the info I received about her baby shower:

BRANDY was joined by one hundred contest winners from around the country at her baby shower Friday at the Le Meridien Hotel in Beverly Hills, California and she donated all her gifts to the Jenesse Center that operates three women's shelters in Los Angeles. Brandy says, "I've always been into battered women, and children, and have always been supportive of things like that. What they do for women and what they do for children is just fabulous. It's great to give back, especially to people who really need it." The Jenesse Center was founded 1980 by five African-American women who were victims of domestic violence. Brandy is expecting her first child next month.

Now maybe it's just me, but shouldn't she be donating the gifts that her celeb friends give her as opposed to the gifts her fans spend their hard earned money on? Well, I guess charity is charity and it's still a noble gesture.

Okay....

It is reported that Brandy will do an "A Baby Story" type documentary for MTV. Unlike the TLC show, the cameras "public" cameras will not go into the delivery room. The show will supposedly chronicle the moments before Brandy and daddy's baby girl will be born.

Does anyone know how well her lates effort is selling? I think she's fishing for publicity to get more units sold...now that's just MY opinion. Why not do the TLC show instead? "Andy" and "Carly" from ATWT did.

Brandy will also be featured in an issue of "O, The Oprah Magazine" where she discusses her anorexia, a verbally abusive relationship, and her depression.

It seems as though she has a surprise a minute. I'm really getting tired of it. I don't need to know all her business.

Brandy's Battle with Anorexia

June 12, 2002
In 1999, picture-perfect BRANDY NORWOOD turned diva and walked off the set of her UPN TV series, "Moesha." She had reached her breaking point. The cause: anorexia and a verbally abusive relationship with a man Brandy will only identify as "homeboy" -- problems she now attributes to low self-esteem.

"I had no decision-making power on that show, yet I was blamed for so much," the 23-year-old singer/actress tells OPRAH WINFREY in an interview in the July issue of O. "The same people who were smiling in my face were talking about me behind my back. Then I'd go home, and there was Satan (her boyfriend), tearing me down. On top of that, I was trying to be thin because the camera adds 10 pounds. I was abusing my body."

The breakdown forced Brandy's parents to get her medical attention. Private nurses were hired and Brandy was fed fluids to restore her health. Through it all, SONJA NORWOOD, Brandy's mom and manager, recalls blaming herself.

"I was at the end of my rope," Sonja revealed. "I didn't know what to do."

During her hospital stay, Brandy had vivid dreams, which when analyzed, put her on the road to recovery.

She learned that, "The true essence of who I am is love. When I see myself as part of everything, I won't judge or criticize."

Not long after her release from the hospital, Brandy ended her relationship with "homeboy." Then she met ROBERT SMITH. The two were secretly wed last year.

It has been three years since the former "Moesha" star stood in the spotlight, but now she's back stronger, more confident than ever. The newly-rejuvenated singer released album No. 3, Full Moon, earlier this year, and will give birth to a daughter this summer.

For a closer look at Brandy's trials and tribulations, check out tonight's edition of ET! And look for the full story in July's O.

Cool Brandy's a vegeterian

Brandy has stated that she is a vegeterian. I wonder how does that play a part in her pregnancy. I mean she is smaller than Aaliyah and I thought no one could be that small; would that be a safe pregnancy. Then on the flipp side of that she's so rich that she probably has the best physicians at her every beckon call.

Being a vegetarian does not put any extra strain on the pregnancy. They just need to make sure that the baby is receiving the right amounts of vitamins and all that.

I remember Brandy gained some weight back before she got married. Good thing too, b/c she got too skinny. I wonder who this "Satan" is too.

If Moesha wasn't such a goody goody, I think the show would have done well. Oh well..

I hope Brandy is happy. And her album has sold 700,000 units, which is a decent performance.

Since when, especially when her other albums have gone at least platinum, double platinum? Those are not good sales, and her album has been out for MONTHS.

So, that's it..this is all about INCREASING her lagging record sales.
