What Can You Do?
Most Schools will be starting at the end of this month or first of Sept!
What can as YOU as an Alum do to help your Chapter?
At LX Chapter of LXA, we will have 12-16 Brothers going to PSU Kansas to hold a Leadership Weekend with Our Active Brothers to work on:
Rushing ( Reqruiting ), Planning a Schedual for the Year; Partys, homecomming, Charitable Events, and Founders Day! What needs to be accomplished at the Officer level, and what needs to be done to keep the House Presentable.
I am a firm beleiver that if Alum are Able to make it, it will show New PMs that it is a life time of Brother/Sisterhood not just for a short 4/5 years.
Any suggestions to other Alums who can help their Chapters?

Our alums (and area alums from other chapters) meet monthly at a Chapter Support Committee. They advise the active chapter on all matters and help a great deal financially.
We also have the housing corporation. The housing corporation is essentially comprised of all of our alumni. They elect officers that control the housing corp which advises and makes decisions concerning our chapter's property.

ZEKE and KEV are both right on! But, If you cannot donate $$$$$ , Time is Money so why not donate the Time to your Chapter! Were you just a member for 4/5 years or a member for Life?
Did You really put into it as much as you got out of it?
We as LXA have the Largest Canned Food Drive in the World and want to get it bigger! I have suggested to my Alums, that to help out this goal is when you visit the Chapter, Bring a case of Canned Goods! These stay with in the community that the Chapters are in! This builds relationships with the People there! Think on it!
While we do other Charity events as ALL Fraternity/Soroitys do the same thing, but at one time at least a year, the Alums can do something special to help out your fellow members. Is that asking to much!
Why not go down, up, or over to a recruitment function to show your support!
I am not talking about the 2 Interfraternal Brothers above as I know how they stand!
I am putting this out to all of the rest of you!
Brother Jono told me that some members of the Chapter there donated money to the Chapter after finding out what they are and others are trying to do! One gave 1,200.00
If you cannot give that then spend your time with them! I for one would not ever go back to my Almamater if not for my Fraternity!

If you or your spouse does interior decorating, construction, plumbing etc donate these services to your chapter and in turn the current members should thank the alum and respect what they were given.
My chapter had to use a girl that graduated 2 yrs ago to be our house mom bc no one responded to our advertisement we put on the Denver panhellenic site and in ASA newsletters(housing corp did inform nationals). WE really need alum willing to help us out!!! I'm sure the new house mom will be great, but being so close in age might be a problem when it comes to respecting her.
WHAT would alum like members to do for them to be more involved ie--more letters of appreciation?!

How to appreciate alums
Your alums are not anything mysterious... Reaching them is not difficult.
The worst thing you can do with your alums is what my father's fraternity does. They send him a letter once a year asking for money. It ends up in the trash.
Contacting alums and making them feel like they are still a part of the organization has to be a coordinated effort. If they don't serve a purpose and see no need for themselves, most likely they'll go back to their busy lives.
If you can demonstrate a need for them and your members show the proper thanks and respect... while your alum relations people make sure they are informed they will stay around... Occasionally you might even get a donation!
At our national conference a past Regent of Sigma Nu donated $250,000 to our educational foundation... He has been involved at the highest level and is still very involved with his fraternity. If not for his involvement and his positive experiences as an alum I think the Educational Foundation would be $250,000 poorer right now (and probably more than that because he was an excellent leader of our Fraternity).

What You Can Do?
Give Time and Sanity
My chapter always, sends out invitations to alumnae asking for their help during recruitment and to see initiation occassionally. I feel that since I am not able to donate a sum of money yet, I can at least give my time (If I have it) to go down and help out. I did it my first year as an alum and I am doing it this year. If not to even help out by supervising and coordinating stuff, just to keep the girls sane and if they need to talk to listen.
My chapter also holds an alumnae event in the Fall.
Besides, giving money and holding workshops or committees to help, you can also get involved in alum clubs and help out a chapter thats near you. It doesnt have ot be your own. Even doing something once a year is fine.
What Members Can Do For Alums?
Say two words.... Thank You
Show one word.... Respect (even if you may not agree with what we have to say. This goes for alums too. After all its 50/50)
Overall...
Collegians...Show alums why we became Greek in the first place.
Alumni...Show collegians why they should and will always remain Greek.
