Recruitment UT Austin

one of my dream schools is UTA. There is a graduating student at my school who is not very fond of me, we did not get along in highschool. But, she is very popular. She is going to UT this fall and being in a good sorority is something that is very important to me. 2 Years from now, do you think that she could affect the sororities that offer me bids? Will she effect my sorority experience? Thanks!

She may not get a bid. She may not get a bid to any of the sororities you might pref, if you are admitted to UT and rush. You may or may not get admitted to UT, and decide to go there.

But, on the other hand, all those improbables might fall into place and you might find yourself loving the chapter she has joined. Why not try to make nice these last few weeks of her HS career? You don't have to become BFFs, but smoothing ruffled feathers might put your mind at ease.

I strongly advise you to connect with any other girls you may know who are already at UT or who are planning to attend and go through recruitment before you do. Having connections and support within the house is not necessarily critical to UT recruitment success (especially if you are from out of state), but it can make a huge difference when it comes down to making the big cuts towards the end of the week. Keep an open mind about each house and maximize your options!

(Also, here's a little pro tip: UTA is the acronym for UT-Arlington, another school in the University of Texas system. "Texas" or "UT-Austin" is the mother ship. Best of luck, and keep us posted!)

I guess it depends which one I am most comfortable in but I would prefer to be in one of the larger sororities.

Holy overthinking it Batman! Relax. It's a long time from now. 900 million things in your life will change between now and then. Worry about what you're going to have for breakfast tomorrow now. Worry about your rush outcome in, oh, a year and a half would be good.

Honestly-- concentrate on your grades and becoming the best you that you can possibly be. You may or may not get into the "school of your dreams." The school of your dreams may change in a year. Take a breath, and focus on you. Use this time to get really, really good grades (the higher the GPA the better--believe it or not it matters. It matters a lot!) and developing yourself into a well spoken, poised young woman. Work on the way you carry yourself and just being the best you that you can be!

A lot can happen in two years. She might grow up. You might grow up. I mean that in a good way. What I would do is seek her out and congratulate her on her acceptance to Texas. Tell her that is quite an accomplishment and that you hope she has a good experience there. People love compliments and my guess is that she will accept it graciously.

Then go back to enjoying your remaining time in high school. Get good grades and build your resume with clubs, activities, and leadership positions. Make positive connections with girls who will be going to college before you. See if you can find some teachers who are sorority alums, and get to know them better. Trust that everything will work out for the best.
