Angry U of IL Phi Delt MISCONCEPTIONS

First off this is in response to another thread about Chapter's Closing Down. There was an article in the Daily Illini about IL Phi Delta Theta in which the headline was "Phi Delt Charter Revoked". Anyone in the greek community would inclined to think that Phi Delts no longer existed at the Univeristy of Illinois WHICH IS NOT TRUE. If some of you actually took the time to read the article you would see that they cannot have a social calendar or rush this semester BUT THEY STILL HAVE THEIR HOUSE. You would have also read that they may rush next semester and that their social calendar will start next year. I hate how these rumors get started and spread throughout the Greek Community, because it is harmful to those in the house. These guys still have their house and are staying on campus, no need to start auctioning off their parking spaces.

I'm sorry for being so passionate about this subject but alot of my good friends are in the house and it is unfair to them to look at a misleading headline and not know the real truth. If you don't believe me, walk in the door and you'll see every single one of them still lives there.

Not all the current members of Phi Delta Theta will retain undergraduate status. Their national organization is coming in to do interviews with each of the men and determine who will be permitted to remain; the others will go alum. Only those retaining their undergraduate status will be permitted to continue living in the chapter house, to the best of my knowledge.

I saw this article on stophazing.org. If you would like to read it yourself you can read the whole thing on www.stophazing.org and click on news.

If the Daily Illini reported what happened incorrectly or used a misleading headline, I would definitely write a letter to the editor and call them on it. Especially at such a big school where everyone might not know what's going on it's very important to get the proper information out.

The DI hates Greeks. You should see the editorial they published today, from an "anonymous" member of the Greek system. They don't really care. The Greeks almost put them under a few years ago, and it has been an issue ever since.

I'm a Phi Delt at a chapter in GA and it really sucks to see a chapter get closed down for a year because of hazing violations. I actually heard this story from one of my Alpha Phi friends who goes to UI. I am almost certain that the Phi Delts at UI will get back on their feet and everything will going in the right direction again. I also think that a newspaper should have the correct information before saying stuff about a fraternity, especially if they are my Brothers.
