Talking A little poll about SK pins

After looking at the Masters of Design site with all the Sigma Kappa pins (and I didn't realize we had that many different ones), I guess I have a little poll for everyone....

1.Which pin do you have?
2.Does everyone in your chapter have the same style, or can you pick?
3.Do you collect vintage pins?
4.Which pin do you like the best?
Add more questions if you can think of any.

The answers for me...
1. The silver scrolled edge with no jewels
2. Everyone in our chapter has the same style, the scrolled edge pin, and since they came out with silver this year we had a choice of silver or gold. I think we all have the same scrolled edge pin because it is the cheapest one, so we all could save money and it would never be a thing of whose pin has more jewels (but I don't think anything like that would ever happen in our chapter).
3. No, but they are cool to look at on ebay
4. The silver scrolled edge, or the gold scrolled edge with pearls in the three corners.

1. The gold filled scrolled edge.
2. Everyone gets whatever pin they want. But a lot have the plain badges. Silver was not available when I was a collegiate.
3. I don't collect vintage pins. I'd like to though. But I don't really trust Ebay that much.
4. I love so many of them. I think the Crown Pearl is beautiful! But I also like the pearl/amethyst one. I just wish they had one w/ alternating garnet and amethyst.

1. The one with all of the pearls around it. Although, my pin is lost somewhere, or perhaps someone else has it. This is a sore subject for me. I'm really hurt that I don't have my pin.

2. At my chapter we were able to choose any style we wanted.

3. I don't collect. I would like to, but my funds do not permit this at the time.

4. I haven't viewed the different styles, but I'm sure the one I have/had is my favorite. I love the pearls. I think it's classy.

1) i have 2 pins. my grandmother's crown pearl (that's what they all got at her chapter) which she passed to me at my initiation, and my own plain scrolled edge one. i wear the pearl one.

2)my chapter all has the same style. we're not given an option, though i think if someone wanted to get a more fancy one they could.

3) no i'm a poor college student

4) i personally like the pearl one! it's just classy. . .

1. First I purchased the gold scroll one b/c after paying all my pledge fees and such, that's all I could afford. I later purchased the silver with pearl points. I alternate wearing them depending on what jewelry I'm wearing
2. We were able to choose what we wanted. Everyone had their favorites and I think it's such a personal item, you should be able to choose.
3.No but I think that would be cool - maybe when I'm an old rich woman - I'll display them in the "Sigma Kappa Room" I plan on having in my house - hee hee.
4. I like the pearl points one I have or I like the one with the amethists - actually, I like them all, they are all so beautiful. When I look at our badge I'm reminded of our beautiful ritual and how much I miss my sisters.

I don't think we ordered our badges through masters of design. I swear we ordered them through some small company that started with a B - I'd have to look through my Sig Kap stuff to be sure. I remember having several conversations with the nice old lady at this company when I was pledge ed.

PSUSigKap - What chapter was your grandmother in?

she and her older sister (who started the tradition!) were in the mu chapter at the university of washington. my mom and her 2 sisters were all epsilon chi's at virginia tech, and i'm theta psi at penn state. i pledged exactly 50 years from when my great aunt pledged! it's cool to have a long tradition in my family. i'm disappointed cuz my younger sister is going to colorado state this year and won't be a sigma kappa cuz they don't have it there while i know she'll find a great organization, i wish she was gonna be a sk!!!

1. I have the pearls with Garnet points.
2. Everyone gts to choose whichever one they want. I've actually never heard of a chapter not letting you pick which one you want.
3. I would love to college vintage SK pins because there is so much history there, but like most, I am still a poor college student!
4. I like mine, the crown pearl and the pearl points. I don't like the new silver ones or the filled scroll. I like the older pins with the distinct scroll edges because they just look more elegant.

Has anyone else's chapter had a bad batch of pins? I heard that after my pledge class, the next batch my chapter ordered all the pin clasps were broken. The class after that, the enamel with the SK actually fell off ! They sent them all back and got good ones, but wow! Also, has anyone noticed that the enamel color they use now is much darker? Mine is distinctly maroon, but some of the newer ones I see it looks almost black.

I have the basic one the plain gold, but I love it. My pledge class got the bad set of pins. I pledged in fall of 2000 and one of my sisters got 2 bad latchs and lost hers. I didn't know that my latch was bad until I lost mine...Then a girl from another organization found it on the floor at school and turned it in, but I don't have the maroon part on mine. So I have to send it back up to Nationals and pay so much money to get it fixed. Then another sister in my pledge class had to send her badge back to Nationls 2 or 3 times because they couldn't get her initials right, then they messed up on her initiation date, but her initials were right that time. I guess you can say that we got some bad ones in our class.

I know that some chapters do not let you choose. I went to Founder's Day this past year at Georgetown College in Kentucky. I cannot remember which chapter it was, but they all had the same badge. They said that when they are ordering their badges they all have to get the same badges.

Our choice for pins is gold or silver of the scrolled edge, and whether we want a guard (is that what they're called?) or not. I think it was mostly a choice to keep the costs for everyone down. I'm sure though if anyone really wanted a more expensive pin they could get one. However, if you go to NWMSU chances are you are probably not a rich person, and we're all pretty much poor college students and want to save money whenever possible. A large majority of us including myself pay for our sorority bills (and usually part to all of college expenses in general) ourselves. We think that dues of $400 per year are harsh (although we don't have a house...we do have a floor in the sorority dorm tough). I've just been shocked to hear on these boards of people paying over $2000 per year in dues! I'm sure some of you girls jaws just dropped hearing only $400 per year in dues!

I'm not a Sigma Kappa, but...

Can I place a vote on the badge?

I think the scroll badge is absolutely beautiful.

Also, the Pearl Court pin is very beautiful (I love things that look outstanding because of their simplicity). What is the Pearl Court, or is that a "SK only" secret?

1.Which pin do you have? like Colleenie said after all the new member dues, i only had enough to pay for the gold scroll one. i recently bought a chapter guard and it only came in gold.

2.Does everyone in your chapter have the same style, or can you pick? everyone in my chapter could choose what style she liked. most girls in my pledge class chose the silver scroll.

3.Do you collect vintage pins? well one of the alums is on ebay everyday looking for vintage sk stuff and my sister lossed hers recently and got one from ebay that was from the 80s. as for me i dont make that much. i work at Target!!!!!

4.Which pin do you like the best? The one i like the best is the HUGE i mean HUGE ones national council recieves when they are in office. i went to convention this year and when Angela Guillory said hi to our table, my eyes were fixated on the shiny diamonds on her badge. its like 2/3 larger than ours.

so my question is, for those of you who have the silver scroll, doesnt it look odd with a gold chapter guard?

I usually only wear my guard and dangles with my gold badge. Does anyone know where you can order a silver guard and dangles?? If you know PLEASE share!!!
Just a random thought: My chest looks like a jewelry store when I wear my badge, guard, dangles, violet pin, & alumna pin.

Oh yeah - I would love to have those huge diamond badges the "Big Doves" wear!!
