Fundraising & Philanthropy
OK ladies-many of you know I am working with a local group at Texas Tech & they have started trying to figure out what to do to raise some funds as well as some successful philanthropy project (they have not selected a benefactor yet...). It has been a long time since I did anything like a fundraiser, or high profile philanthropy project, and was hoping you all could help with some ideas.
I saw that MTSU had an amazing fundraiser last year and would love to hear some details about that...these women are pretty gung-ho and want to go national within the next year (if Tech's panhellenic decides to expand). A great fundraiser and philanthropy event would really look good for them!
Thanks in advance!

Delta Theta does an annual Gong Show, and it is really awesome. All the groups on campus participate since it is a chance to do talent, etc. and we all know how competition gets people going...

MTSU DZ
For the past 2 years we have held an annual "rock-a-thon" to raise money for the Speech and Hearing Clinic on campus. We rock in rocking chairs from 7am to 7pm infront of the Student Center(we call it the "knoll") Before the rock we get student org. and greek org. to sponsor us. It seems that both years we have done it, it FLOODS! But is doesn't matter.... we are still out there! If you guys need anymore info.. just let me know!
PS- This year we also plan on having a turtle tug... any suggestions, comments, ideas!?!?!

Mr. University of Kentucky Pageant
Hey sweet sisters!
At the Alpha Theta chapter, we have the Mr. University of Kentucky Pageant (similar to a beauty contest). The guys really ham it up and it is hysterical.
First the guys (nominated by a fraternity or sorority - they don't have to be greek) are interviewed by one of our alumna (or our housemother). They get scores on poise, posture, conversation etc.
Then there is the actual pageant. They do a choreographed dance. And then there is the swimsuit part.
After that it is cut down to 10, who do their talents. Then it cuts to five where they are asked a "question."
The guy and the nominating organization win $500.
We raised a surprising large amount for the foundation and we gave money to a local organization as well.

DZ Dream Man
Mary, at Illinois State we do something very similar to your chapter's pageant and it's called DZ Dream Man. Each fraternity picks a member who will participate as a contestant and our new members and actives get to "coach" each contestant before the competition(the coaches also get to go onstage with the men they are coaching). First there are interviews held a few days before the competition that are worth points, then on the actual night, the men wear their (and our) letters first, doing something cute as they walk down the runway, next is talent(i think??) the guys are hilarious in this segment, and then formalwear. The guys get so competitive and get to meet a lot of our girls in the process and we raise a lot of money for it every year as well.
Other chapters' philanthropies at my school include mud volleyball, Foxy Lady pageant(for sorority women, very much like Dream Man), Lasting Impressions(a lip-sync/dance competition), Sigma Chi Derby Days(of course!!), Camp Week(in the spring, we have to camp outside our house and play games/scavenger hunts, etc.) March Madness(a HUGE choreographed dance competition that is a major deal for every chapter on campus to compete in, guys too...they get so serious about it and its fun to watch them dance). Those are the major ones, with softball tournaments, etc thrown in also.
I am proud to report that our chapter of DZ won Foxy Lady(well, one of *my* pledge sisters did), Lasting Impressions(we a did a remix of Janet Jackson's "Come on get up") and March Madness(which we were 2nd in the year before..we did a mix of Michael Jackson which was incredible) All in all a great year!

Hey ISUDeeZee-
I think you guys won March Madness the year I visited your chapter as a consultant. They were preparing for it at the time, and I was really impressed with how focused everyone was on practices and winning it! Truly, it was no simple dance competition! (BTW-I was there Spring of '93...seems like eons ago!).
