Peace Corps

I am seriously considering joining the Peace Corps when I graduate. Have any of you volunteered or know anyone who did? What was the experience like?

I don't know of anyone around the college age group that has done the Peace Corps, but 3 of my professors did it before going to graduate school and they talk about it all the time and how it is really "The hardest work you'll ever love." I went to the website www.peacecorps.org and they had some stories/testimonials of people who had positive experiences.

one of our sisters went to africa to help build schools, i think about five years ago right after she graduated. i would love to do this. she wrote letters to the chapter and i found and read them all when i helped clean the suite out my sophomore year and they just made me want to go out and really DO something...she said it was one of the most fulfilling experiences she will ever have.
this is one of those things i don't normally tell people so that if i get rejected (i heard they are incredibly selective) i won't be embarassed... sad, yes i know hehehehe

I have a cousin who was in the Peace Corps. If I wasn't married right now I would seriously consider joining I think it would be such an awesome experience. My cousin said it definitely makes you appreciate life much more!

My cousin went to africa with a group of people last year almost immeadiately after I got back from visiting him and they all loved it, one girl friend of his "accidentally" missed her return flight and has yet to leave....that was about 9 months ago....everyone I know who has gone to Africa said it was the greatest experience of their lives and are all planning on doing Peace Corps
