Hello To All!
My organization is preparing to sponsor HSU's 1st Annual Women of Color Conference. The conference will target teenage women who come from under-represented backgrounds.
Our goal is to provide young women with the necessary knowledge to overcome any obstacles they might come across due to sexual preference, race, ethnicity, and/or cultural background. We would also like to offer encouragement and support to finish their current educational stage and pursue a higher education (college degree).
So far we have 4 workshops:
1. Presented by students. Will focus on what they went through before going to college and how they've managed to get to where they are.
2. A panel of professionals with a University degree. This panel will give the participants a chance to ask questions about entering the workforce.
3. Will address issues of being a lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, or transgender woman and succeeding in life, despite people's views and stereotypes.
4. Women of Color in the media.
Have any of you done anything similar? I would appreciate any comments, thoughts, concerns, advice, and or suggestions. This is our first time planning a conference on our own and the first time anything like this has taken place on campus.
Can't wait for reponses!
Thanks in advance,
Obdulia (Obi - makes it easier on everyone
