Scholarship Ideas???
Hey everyone!
I'm the VP Scholarship for my chapter and I was wondering if anyone had some fun morale booster ideas that would encourage members to keep studying and doing well or get members to study who haven't made grades. I'm trying to plan for the coming school year. Thanks!

As a collegian, we had Alpha Gam Dollars. Every week, we turned in study sheets to show how many hours a week we studied. Some were proctored, some were honor hours. Those girls who had the lower GPAs were required to put in more hours than the girls who had the higher GPAs. But anyway, you'd earn a dollar for each hour you studied.
At the end of each semester at Senior Farewell, we'd have a Scholarship Auction. The items that we were bidding on were all donated by our wonderful alumnae!!! It'd be neat stuff too... AGD shirts, Bath and Body/VS lotions/sprays, stationery...etc. It was a great way to end the semester and it's a great incentive to get your sisters to study more often!!!
We also had the brag board. Everytime a sister gets an A or B on a paper/midterm/exam, she'd get a star next to her name on the brag board.
Also, contact your local alumnae and see if they'd be willing to sponsor a scholarship dinner if your chapter's cumulative GPA is at least a 3.14. It's a great way to help promote "Strive for Pi!". We've had a lot of great dinners in the past...my favorite being Mexican night!
Hope this helps!

Have you asked your Scholarship Committee Member for ideas? Usually she has a whole list of ideas that she can share with you - the list is compiled from VPS's EC reports around the country (the spot where you note what kind of incentive programs you have).

I heard a cute idea recently, relating to the "Strive for Pi" program... for every member who attains "Pi" for their GPA, the VPS brings a "pie" in, and they get a slice during the chapter meeting!
I just thought that was a really cute way of promoting Alpha Gamma Delta's program, while recognizing and encouraging members. It's a perfect thing to do at the first meeting of each term for all members who reached "Pi" for the previous term!
We also got play money for scholarship success, and our alumnae would donate things and we'd bid on it with our "Squirrel Bucks" at the end of each year.
AGDZO Susan makes a great point to contact your Scholarship Committee Member, too - they can be a great resource for your chapter!

My chapter did a "Skippy Jar" every week at chapter meetings. Everyone who did not skip class got to put their name in the jar, and if your name was pulled, you won a prize.
We also did a "String of Pearls" board, which is similar to Sandy's Brag Board. You got 1 pearl for a B, 2 pearls for an A, and 3 pearls for a perfect score. Whoever has the most pearls at the end of the semester won a prize.
The VPS notebook has a pretty good list of incentive programs, too.

We also have the skippy jar too...but if we miss class, we need to put a quarter in. All the money gets collected at the end of the semester and it goes to getting cute little gifts for the Scholarship auction!

I like that idea even better! I'll have to suggest it to the VPS.

During this past semester, I started a couple new programs.
1. Smarties: If you completed all or more study hours every week, than you were recognized in chapter and rewared with Smarties candies.
2. Test Lottery: For every A or B on a test, you were rewarded with tickets in a "lottery". I got prizes like Target, Old Navy, Michael's, Campus Shop, Chick-fil-a GC, and made study snack baskets for the drawing during a scholarship dessert party.
3. Chain Gang: For every A or B on any assignment, you get links on your family's chain (the chapter is divided into Alpha, Gamma, and Delta families...your family depends on what your sister-mothers family is). The family that has the longest chain is rewarded.
This all worked really well as far as I can tell...I will definitely see once I get grades for last semester!
