Chapter Anniversaries

Hi ladies,

I'm just curious about how many Phis have had celebrations for their chapter's anniversaries recently.

The thread in Greek Life on Alpha Chapters made me think about my chapter's 75th Anniversary which was in 1999. One of our founding members was there with her daughter who was also a member of the chapter. She found a journal kept by the chapter historian in our library and read to us from it. The journal covered the time period when the chapter got their charter and started collecting money to build our chapter house. She told us the story of each graduating woman giving ten dollars to a fund to start the building fund for the house they were going to build at 714 Hilgard. It was one of the most moving moments I've experienced in Alpha Phi. Because of the efforts of this woman and her friends, generations of women have experienced the joys of membership in Alpha Phi at UCLA.

Does anyone else have special stories to share of their chapter anniversaries?

The Texas Tech chapter of Alpha Phi celebrated its 45-year anniversary in 2000. The anniversary was marked by a reunion weekend, where alumnae from across the country returned to Lubbock for three days of activities. It was nice for the collegians who got to see the "big picture" that you touched upon above. It's hard when you're young to fully grasp the importance and legacy of those who have come before.

Thanks for sharing your story. How special that is to be able to peek into the past and read the thoughts and feelings of those women whose legacy lives on in you and your sisters at UCLA.

In the latter part of April we had a luncheon to celebrate our chapter's 5 year anniversary. Beginning with Alpha, each pledge class was represented. It was really, really awesome meeting all of the "old school girls" as we call them. I can't wait for our 10 year.
