Making Yourself Stay Awake

I know I'm not the only one who struggles to stay awake during boring class lectures or doing busywork at my job.

When I'm dozing off in class I usually start cracking my ankles by rotating them or dig my fingernails into my hands. Weird? Yes. Does it work? Usually. Or I try to get my mind off of whatever is boring me at that time and think of upcoming weekend plans. One time I was sitting next to this guy during a boring class lecture and we were both doing the embarassing head nod from dozing off. Afterwards, he told me he was digging the keys in his pocket into his thigh in an effort to stay awake. Haha.

So how do you all stay awake when you're absolutely bored out of your minds?

I'm a doodler. I'll make little flowers on my papers or draw in my books. Sometimes, i'll catch myself biting my fingernails....bad habit...and sometimes i'll just fall asleep....

My best friend and I pass notes in class. It's so 8th grade, but hey-it keeps me awake and is usually alot more entertaining than when we're being lectured on!!

in light of the Best in Baseball thread, I suggest staying away from any set with Baseball on.

at work to stay awake, I'll get up and walk around with papers in my hand so that it looks like I'm walking for a reason.

Well, I'm not a big fan of the way Red Bull tastes, but I'll give it another try. One of my sisters brought me some Red Bull during our 24 hour Dance Marathon but I never drank it and was struggling to stay awake in the wee hours of the night.

Sometimes when I'm at work and I'm really tired, I'll go take a walk to the bathroom just for a change of scenery.

At our DM we weren't allowed to have any form of caffeine. I hid some No-Dozes in my bag but never took any. One of our sisters did bring us Gatorade, though. (She made a huge basket of goodies, but Gatorade? Eww.)

In a boring lecture I find myself daydreaming or giving people in my class mental makeovers. Sounds weird? Try it some time!

I like drinking coffee and taking caffeine pills, but don't do both at the same time. Gives ya the shakes. My roomates locked me out of our apt. when I did this once b/c I was being too hyper and annoying.

That's TOO funny. Maybe I'll try it when I find myself falling asleep in class. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that sometimes I bring a bottle of water to class. When I feel myself getting tired, I'll just drink some water, and I'm awake...well that is, for the next 5 minutes until I have to take another sip of water.
