Post HELP! COB IDEAS!!

Hello! I'm in charge of spring COB for my chapter. We are the biggest sorority with about 60 girls. Our campus has about 22,000 students, but our Greek system is very small. We're hoping to have a spring class of 10-12.
Anyway, we've done the usual 'come over for dinner' activites, so I'd like to hear some events that have worked for others in the past. I'm planning a philanthropy night, an ice cream night, and a kiddie game night(charades, chutes and ladders, etc). If you have any ideas or advice, please let me know! I appreciate it! My email is ensoleille99@yahoo.com. Thanks!
Greek love and mine,
Megan

Instead of a 'kiddie' game night, you might want to make up your own version of Chutes & Ladders with separate questions for the members and the rushees. Things like:

Why did you choose AGD
What are you looking for in a sorority
Tell the Rushee about our social activities

Etc.

One of our chapters created a game like this and uses it for both formal and informal recruitment. We're starting to use the game nationally. It's a great way to exchange a lot of information and talk informally without pressure on the rushees.

Cool

We had a "beatnik" COB party. Easy dress for us (black turtlenecks & pants) and we made up goofy poems. (e.g. "I am a tree and my branches embrace my sisters!") It put the rushees at ease since we were acting so informal.

We didn't have a house so maybe it'll work differently for ya'll but when we tried to do game night we ran into some problems. Basically the girls were using a lot of inside jokes and other stuff that a rushee would be clueless about. While we did show sisterhood, we didn't show how the rushee could be a part of it too. So if you do do game night, try a few practice runs first.

Other nights that we've done for COB include ice cream/philanthropy, pizza/welcome, Hawaiian luau, beach bonfire, and Preference. For our Pref we do one that's especially for COB. It really adds something special for the girls who've never been through Formal rush. Also, even if it's not tradition at your school, hold a bid day. Have the pledges meet an alumna or older member who can be like a Rho Chi and then follow what ever you would do for Fall. Like we have the girls learn a chant and then sing it as they follow the Rho Chi to the chapter. When the chapter hears it we reply and everyone sings together. Then lots of photos and a pot luck.

Make sure to do plenty of advertising and even set up booths in the busy parts of campus and especially near the frosh res halls.

Other ideas that I've known to work for other chapters...New Year's Eve party, Cinco de Mayo/Mexican Fiesta party (virgin margaritas!), casino night, BBQ, afternoon tea, Camp XYZ, and PJ slumber party.

These can be as complicated or as simple as you want!
