Lightbulb Need Some Rush Help!!!

I go to a school that has over 50,000 students and my fraternity has 33 guys. We have be on campus for 4 years and we can't compete with the other fraternity that have 60+ Guys. Everyone wants to go to a big Fraternity and they don't want to be apart of some that is small! We have tried so many things and we can never get more than 16 guys in a semester!!! We need more guys so that we can compete with every one else. Thanks for listening!!!

My sorority has the same exact problem. We are a small sorority about 39 people. Every semster we get about 4-13 new girls and we honestly have no idea of how to recruit more. Are you a RUSH chairman? If you are or even if you arent, maybe we can help each other out. OK?

You can ask your national HQ to come in and help you with an expansion rush. They have people who are extremely skilled at rushing come in either after formal rush or during the semester when informal rush is, and you take an extra large pledge class. But be careful - sometimes you can get a group who takes over the org and makes it unrecognizable to the old members who were the ones that put all the sweat into it.

Are you consistently taking and keeping about 16 guys? If they are freshman, won't you be able to build your numbers fairly steadily with 32 new members each year?

Be sure to "sell" what makes YOUR fraternity unique and worth joining, not that you're trying to get as big as the other guys. Otherwise, you run the risk of getting people who join for all the wrong reasons. Also, remember the value of good publicity, wear those letters and do good deeds. People will notice your fraternity if you're out there enough.

Good luck!

Thumbs up

In my fraternity we have started a new thing, we are going to have 2 Rush Chairmen and we think that might help with the problem. We have a hard time following up on prospective members. I am going to restructer our program and come up with a whole new program. It's going to be around 1-20 pages on how to get guys out and how to make them want to be apart of what I am apart of. I just started this monster of a project so when I finish my first pages I'm send them to you. Sound good!!!
Thanks for the reply

One of the most important things is making sure the guys you have are extroverted enough to go and attract other people. Approaching a perspective rshee is difficult and often people rushing are afraid of rejection but you must remember that if everyone you offer a bid to says yes you are not rushing aggressively enough and are probably bidding people too late/slowly.
