Office Hours for Officers!

I was wondering which of your groups sets regular office hours for your EC members.

It might only be a couple hours a week where the officers agree to be in a certain centrally located spot at a specific time, preferably with a phone near them. Somewhere central on campus is more ideal than an apartment. The tric kis to facilitate ease of access.

Obviously they can do school work or whatever there, but it also allows a block of time where they can work on chapter things and as well as a time they can make appointments to talk to chapter members.

In the case of the senior officers its also an opportunity where general members can approach them informally with ideas and problems. The regulararity of the hours (and the fact they are posted) help with this.

I did this as Chapter President, anybody else do this at all in a regular way?

The only people who have to do office hours on our campus are the exec boards of ifc/panhel.

Our chapter officers don't have to do them!

Our chapter doesn't do this, but I really wish we would!

No one here, not even the council officers, keeps office hours. The university's Greek Affairs staff doesn't even keep their posted hours half the time. Just not a priority, I guess.

It's an interesting idea, but probably unneccessary for us- it'd only take me about twenty minutes worth of running up and down stairs to find any brother I need.

Our president, Vp's, and social chair and COB chair do. I think the rest of the directors are supposed to, too, but I know with my position if someone needs me, they have my cell phone number, AIM name, and know where my room is... I'm VERY easy to get in touch with, so I never turned my office hours in... And most of the VP's don't keep theirs, anyway.

As president of my chapter, office hours were the most helpful thing for me! I started the idea my first semester after having people approach me NON-STOP at all hours of the day, sometimes with the most mundane questions.

We made it an informal policy that all of exec. had to keep them... especially our finance chair because everyone always wanted to talk to her about their house bills, and president, because everyone always wanted to talk to me about... well, everything!

And when people came to talk to me when I was studying for a big test or on the phone long-distance, it was great to be able to tell them to just swing by my office hours instead of having to deal with something then or to try to set up a time.

It really helps to keep officers sane!!!

Just remember to offer hours on more than one day and at different times of day so that they can work for all members.

It depends on your organization... Sometimes it would be great. I don't think so as much for my organization.

Open communications SHOULD be as simple as publishing a current directory. As treasurer, I try to contact anyone that's having "issues" on their bills... And they can always contact me if they have to warn me about something.

Members need to be continuously reminded (or taught really well the first time) which officer is responsible for what. If everyone goes straight to the pres. for mundane crap then not only does the officer that actually knows what's going on get passed over, the person seeking info gets info from the pres that is either incomplete, nonexistant or incorrect. Don't be afraid to refer them to the proper person!
