Pledging Grad. Chapter

How are sorors who pledged Grad. chapter viewed by those who pledged Undergrad.? Is it on a case-by-case basis? I was curious because there are sorors who could not pledge undergrad. because their chapter was suspended.

graduate sorors are looked at as being the
serious ones. the worker bees less social.
one hang up might be, did you go grad because
the undergraduate chapter wouldn't take you.

I feel Grad chapter is a nice experience. Yes, Grad chapter is more serious because we have matured some since college days but we still hang with the undergrad by supporting a function they might have like a greek show or something to that nature. To be a AKA goes beyond the letters and fun anyway it's about being a part of the big picture so it shouldn't matter how you come in as long as your in.

I pledged undergrad eight years ago I have been in the grad chapter for six years. I has been a great experience. You get to do a lot of networking. It is alot of hard work in six years I have been graduate advisor,Anti-Grammetues and I have served on a ton of committees. If that person is interested in being an AKA is really true about working, volunteering, and educating themselves about the sorority then they are looked upon favorablly. If that person just wants to wear the t-shirt and you don't see them again until after initiation then they are not respected as sorors.

I was pondering this question myself because I have decided to wait until grad chapter to pursue my interest. However, I was told it would be harder because the first thing they are going to want to know is why you didn't pursue it in undergrad. Additionally, on a more personal level, I was told that the "experience" isn' t the same. And to be honest, I don't know if it sounds crazy, but I want the full experience of being inducted even if I don't do undergrad.

What exactly is the "full experience"? If an "experience" is a determining factor in whether or not you choose to pursue membership, then Alpha Kappa Alpha is NOT for you.

It was not my intentions to offend you. However, when I say "experience", I mean I want to get the fullest from the membership intake process. Now, of course we both know what this means. It was not my intentions to give off the impression that the "experience" is a determing factor in whether or not I would continue my pursit of Alpha Kappa Alpha.Honestly, I will continue to pursue Alpha Kappa Alpha despite my chances of having "ships", a "line name" and things that are more popular on the undergraduate level becuase that is not why I am interested in the organization. I can get that anywhere. What I was trying to say,however, is that being able to partake in these things would have been a perk for me seeing as how I am pursing on a graduate level. That's all.

Consequences of Violating the Anti-Hazing Policy:

Any violation may result in suspension or revocation of chapter and/or individual privileges, and/or permanent expulsion from membership in AKA. Hazing activities may also result in official discipline by a college or university or even the imposition of civil and criminal penalties for individuals and/or chapters of AKA.

Hmmmm, I could have sworn that I read intros of new AKAs initiated in alumnae chapters that had ship names, line names, and even line numbers.

As you should know, graduate level membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is by invitation ONLY. An "experience" should be the least of your concerns. You should be more interested in performing community service and making yourself a better woman in order to even be considered for an invitation. Being invited for membership should be all the "perk" you need....

I'm sorry if I was once again misunderstood. I was not speaking of hazing of any kind. I put the word experience in quotes becuase I was refering to the membership intake process. But of course, seeing as though I am not a member, I am not quite sure what the intake process intails. As an outsider,I can only go by what I was told. And, I was told that the intake process is different on a graduate level. I am quite sure that being hazed would not be a "perk" for anyone, including myself. But, none the less, I apologize for not making my statements more clear. Additionally,all of your advice has been well noted. Thank ou ladies for taking out the time to point me in the right direction.
