Cool

Hey!

Our chapter(gamma sigma) is in rebuilding process right now! We have nine members, in the fall it was two!The image has changed too, for the good. A few things i have learned from the two sisters who recruited me. If you believe in Phi Sig, others will believe in it. Be yourself. Do not EVER bad mouth anyone in your sorority, another sorority or complain about phi sig in public!! And most important you must be willing to WORK, just remember to play too

LITP,

Mary

hey spixie81!
congrats on taking the initiative to rebuild a chapter!!! my number one recommendation is to wear your letters often and be proud of what you are a part of! talk up phi sig as often as you can. let everyone know our ideals and how sisters are involved. also, do not be afraid to be yourself!

good luck!!!

I agree with Binks.

You have to have pride in yourself and your sorority to be successful in either. If you spread only negative publicity about yourself, why would someone want to be your friend or sister?

Good luck this semester with recruitment!

We too are in the same position. Make sure that everyone does their jobs and don't take any less. People are not always as dedicated as they may seem at the begining... and follow through with all those DAP things... if you have them.

Getting started

That is great to hear. I agree with what everyone else is saying. When possible, wear the heck out of your letter and show everyone in the community that Phi Sigma Sigma rocks and they well soon realize it at your school, community and beyond. I also agree with the chapter its self needs to be strong. Like previous words, do not bad mouth your own girls, instead incourage them and create a life long bonding.

Talking Suggestion

Letters, Letters, Letters! And when you're done wearing your letters, wear them again! Make your own. It'll save you money, and you'll get to wear them right away! Go to the fabric store and buy cute material and material adhesive. Draw the letters on the material, iron the adhesive on the material, cut out the letters, and iron them on your shirt, sweatshirt, boxers, sweater... whatever... Once you've done that, then use puffy paint around the edges of the letters, to help keep them on your clothing. We do this on Bid Day for the New Members. But sometimes when we just feel like having new letters, we just make them.

Anyways, after you wear your letters like everyday... Be friendly. Talk with the people in your classes... Go have lunch with them... Invite them to sorority activities.

Remember:Even if they don't go Phi Sig, having a Phi Sig Friend is just as important. They will promote Phi Sig like they were in it themselves. You can make Phi Sig Friends with frat guys, women that just aren't quite ready for a sorority, and even faculty and staff! Really! We have a great repor with the faculty and staff on campus, and they promote our activities, and even joining Phi Sig to their students. It's great!

Anyways, I hope these help. Good Luck!

Letters

Yes, I agree 100%. Letters are a great way to show Phi Sigma Sigma pride. I also use ribbon (thin) around the edge of the sleeves and tie the end in a bow. It is so cute. My chapter makes shirts usually for all the events we hold plus we buy at least one matching shirt per semester. This year it was a flag on the shirt that said sisters stand united! So Cute and all the other sororities on campus copied us they liked is so much.

wear letters and volunteer

HI There,
For some reason I just saw this post for the first time. As everyone said, wear letters as much as possible. If finances are a concern the do as SapphireSphinx9 said and make your own letters. It really makes your shirts stand out from all the basic greek letter shirts out there. We do them for bid day so that the new members can proudly wear their letters from the beginning. That is a plus for Phi Sig since some GLO don't allow their women to wear letters until initiation.
Also, VOLUNTEER at your campus. Every event you can think of (especially if you can wear letters). Iota Gamma has great rapport with our school because we are always volunteering for New Student Orientations, etc. Plus, even if we can't wear letters at an event we can talk about Greek Life and put a plug in for Phi Sig. And of course it develops good rapport with faculty and staff who remember us in a positive light when they talk about the greeks on campus, we're often the first group mentioned.
