When do you wear your badge?

I was wondering, in what non-sorority/ fraternity sitiuations do ya'll wear your badges? For example, not every sunday, but on occasion I feel like wearing mine so I wear it to church. Obviously I wouldn't wear it to something like a job interview but it makes me feel good to have it on so I will wear it sometimes just to wear it (with the appropritate dress of course). Who else does this?

I can't help but wonder...

Thirty-five years ago, when I was in college, we wore our badges everywhere. If we weren't dressed appropriately (collared shirt, etc.), we wore a sweatshirt with our letters.

Since I work directly with some Delt chapters, I know that students dress much more casually today, and seldom wear their badges to class and other school functions, but I wonder if we wouldn't be better off,recruitment and otherwise, always wearing some visual confirmation of our affiliation.

When you and I were in school we dressed and wore our Badges everywhere. I was in Business.

But all dressed so we could let people know who we were.

Wearing your letters or colors is a way of promoting you Fraternity/Soroity!

My question is, why dont you dress in the manner that you can do that to show that you are proud of being with your Organization!

I do not think is neccessary to Promote a Beer, Shoe, or clothing company! Do they pay you to wear their over priced merchandise? Hell No but you do!!!

DeltAlum & Tom... you're right, students (and people in general) dress a lot more casually, so it's not always appropriate to wear a badge. I know that on my campus, other means of showing off your GLO were common (T-shirts, jackets, etc.) and just about everyone wore their lavalier daily.

I have to say, since some similar topics have come up on the boards I have been wearing my badge more often. I hadn't really worn it since graduating other than at national gatherings. Now I love wearing it whenever I can!

I wear mine to chapter meetings and National events. I probably don't wear it as much as I should. I dress very casually to class so wearing a pin with jeans and a t-shirt is not appropriate.

It is too bad lifestyles have changed to the degree that a student's daily class clothing is unsuitable for wearing their pin.
I don't see it ever returning. The girls are fortunate since there's so much jewelry out there that can display their org.

I do know that my daughter is as proud wearing a T-shirt with DG on it as she is when she wears her pin because she loves her sorority. I think this is true for all the actives. There just aren't the same occassions and the general student population is comfortable in jeans and shorts. Plus, I would guess many chapters have opted for comfort instead of setting temselves apart from the general population by frequently wearing "pin" attire.

One thing that really looks great-At LSU several fraternities have their pledges wear jackets (some ties) to the football games. Talk about NICE! These young men may not "appreciate" it all that much, but I can tell you, it REALLY looks good and distinguishes them from the rest of the stdents. Nice way to be noticed, and they are noticed!

At my university it was customary for every sorority to have a "dress up" day and a "letters" day once a week. It was actually really nice, as a lot of the non-NPC groups like mine did it also. So all the NPC women wore their badges at least once a week, and on the letters day it was awesome to see so many sisters decked out in letters of some fashion. I think it definately helped increase awareness of GLOs.

Anytime I wear a button up shirt, etc.. that badge can be found on me somewhere. It represents a great deal to me. I wear my letters probably twice a week... sometimes more and sometimes less.

The cool thing about wearing my badge at work is that I work retail so there's no telling what actives/alums you'll meet.

I agree. We always wore jacket and tie to football games, as did most of the other fraternities. It did set us apart, I think, in a good way.

Unfortunately, what LSU does could probably be considered hazing if the pledges are told they have to dress up. What a crock!

I still wear my badge to chapter, district and national functions, and I have a Delt Crest lapel pin I wear when I dress in jacket and tie at other times.

And, on occassion, you can catch me in a Delt tee shirt.

I also have a Delt alumni sticker on my windshied.

Our chapter does the same thing. We decided that Mondays is letters day and we wear our sweatshirts, tshirts, etc (although we do it throughout the week). Thursdays is pin attire day. Since we're usually so casual most of the week I've noticed that on pin attire days I have people asking if I'm going to an interview or what. I then explain about the badge etc - it's been a useful recruitment tool besides being proud to wear my letters, badge, and everything else

Wednesdays at UF are Greek days so that's when the guys break out their jerseys and the girls wear their personalized embroidered tops.

Everyone wears their pledge pins while they're pledging, but once they're initiated I never see badges. I only wear mine to dress chapter. I'd like to wear it more, but it just isn't the norm. During the fall when all the girls are pledging they use their new member bags with their organization's name on it.

Whenever you see a group of guys walking around in jackets and ties it's pretty obvious they're fraternity pledges. If they wore jackets to football games they would probably pass out from the heat.

Girls wear their lavalieres most of the time, though, and everyone always throws on Greek t-shirts. So though we never wear our badges, we still like to represent.

Our practice was that if your shirt had a collar (to include a band collar) you wore your badge. Pledges wore their pins in public always, so they had to dress the part. If your shirt didn't have a collar you didn't wear your badge but most guys wore a tee shirt or sweat shirt with letters or symbols, or the coat of arms if they weren't wearing badges. Most of us had wind breaker jackets with identifying insignia, and during cooler and cold weather we wore badges on sweaters and blazers with coat of arms patches. If we were in a suit we always wore badges on vest if three piece and shirt if two piece. Our chapter was heavy into preppy so we were more into khakis and sweaters or blazers than jeans and tee shirts. Our whole chapter wore blazers, ties, and badges to football games and other 'official' campus activities where this was appropriate. This was not 'policy' but we just sort of did it by custom that was not even talked about but picked up by observation.
