Fashion Emergency!

All right everyone, put those sequined thinking caps on...

One of my longtime girlfriends is getting married in September, the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. I am clueless on what to wear. Some things that might help in your advice:

1) This wedding is in Chicago. Chicago is still fairly hot and humid at the beginning of September.

2) It's a formal afternoon wedding at the Hotel Sofitel (her parents are loaded)

3) Her wedding colors are purple and cream, so purple is out (I don't look that great in it anyway)

4) It will be an Orthodox Jewish ceremony (she's Conservative, but the only way she could convince her fiance to not get married in a synagogue was to have an ultra-Orthodox ceremony), so whatever I wear needs to cover my shoulders and should come down at least to my knees.

5) She's invited all the out-of-town guests to the rehearsal dinner, and I most definitely qualify. What on earth do I wear to that??

I was thinking for the wedding I'd wear a sheath dress, probably pink or blue, with some great jewelry and nude sandals. If it's sleeveless, I can always wear a shawl during the ceremony. Any suggestions on favorite stores or past outfits that have worked for you? I was thinking Ann Taylor or J. Crew might have what I want. I do not have a big budget...such is the life of a public librarian. I already have enough jewelry, I'm looking more for dress/shoes suggestions.

I would try Lord & Taylor or any slightly upscale department stores near you. I just bought a dress for my cousin's wedding there and since it was summer dress it was marked down about 15%.

Another vote for Lord & Taylor. They have tons upon tons of dresses, plus their sales are the bomb!! Did you ever get to go to the one in Downtown Pgh?

Tracy - I thought I told you that! It is in the old Mellon headquarters on Smithfield. Some preservationists had a fit because they renovated it inside - I guess they preferred having the building stand there empty with no one using it. Here is a pic of the building in case you forgot. http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/ed/lord___taylor.html
