the number 33 is from the author of the little slogan they have on the bottle. He wrote the thing then wrote 33 on it cuz thats how many charecters the slogan had. It mistakenly was printed on the bottle and rolling rock kept it on. I read this in an urban legend book.

From what I know, there is no known meaning of the "33", and all we have are guesses as to why its there.
Speaking of, I drank my fill of the good ole "There is a horse on beer" tonite. Yea, I texed my friend with that quote... forgetting the word "my"
hehe
Sheila, arent you proud?!

what a touching topic! **sniff, tear**
From the glass lined tanks of Old Latrobe
We tender this premium beer for your enjoyment
As a tribute to your good taste
It comes from the mountain springs to you
"33"
The real story behind it is...
well, that would kill the mystery if I told you now, wouldn't it?
only to say, PiKA is wrong.

I think Pika2001 is right. There are 33 characters on the back of the bottle.
PS.. Rolling Rock has a website and they used to have a message board devoted to possible 33 theories. Yea I know I have way too much time on my hands.

If I am not mistaken...
-33-
In the printing industry means the end. So after a bunch of copy, you'ld add -33- to let the pressmen or pre-press staff know that was all of the copy, and nothing got chopped off.
I think.....
I have a few REoling rocks on my day Good stuff, but as we have discussed, I am on a Dos Equis kick right now.

Damn! I knew there was a subliminal reason I loved 33girl. At first I thought it was because she never agrees with me. Kinda like my wife. Now, I understand.
I've heard the "33 characters" reason for many years, and believe it to be true.
In Journalism, at the end of a story they write -30- I don't know about the printing industry.
My undergraduate motto:
"Cold Pizza and warm Rolling Rock, breakfast of champions!"

DeltAlum, I can't believe you didn't get the "33" reference till now! That must have been a subliminal subliminal thing.
but as for some of the other theories...
1933 was the year Prohibition was repealed. (yay)
33 letters in the list of ingredients in beer
3 beers + 3 beers = a six pack

33, my love,
The thought had crossed my mind, but I never asked.
Shouldn't you like Iron City or Old Frothingslosh, "the Pale Stale Ale with the foam on the bottom?"
By the way, one of my pledge brothers was from Latrobe. I think he was Arnold Palmer's tractor mechanic. Not really.

this is really going to hurt...
but I am too young to remember Olde Frothingslosh. They have a new one, called Augustiner Lager. MMMMM.
Actually, I am originally from a few counties east of Pittsburgh - closer to Latrobe than Pittsburgh - so that explains the Rolling Rock obsession.
Although RR was named official beer for the new football stadium instead of IC...but I'm not even going to open that can of worms.

33girl,
Actually, I only have heard the legend of Olde Frothingslosh -- a totally made up product, I think, from the imagination of Rege Cordick (spelling of both names probably wrong), a legendary KDKA DJ as I'm sure you know.
Talk about a scandal, though, I was in Pitt. once to direct a Steelers/Browns game for NBC at Three Rivers and stayed at the Wm. Penn Hotel -- and they didn't serve Rock. I had to settle for a Bud -- which was brewed in Columbus. I lived close to the Columbus brewery for a while and when we were downwind, it wasn't a pretty picture.
