New Rush Ideas

I have done a search and I haven't come up with what I am looking for. I'm helping the girls get some stuff together over the summer so they will be ready when school starts back up again in the fall and of course we are looking for new ideas.

At my school there are 3 sororities (2 national, 1 local). Obviously my sorority is the local but we rush with the NPC sororities and follow NPC guidelines during Rush. Since we are the only sorority with a house we hold all of our Rush events at school.

We have the following nights:
Information Night, Four Rounds of Events/Parties, and Preference Night

Information and Preference Night are always done exactly the same for us so we do not need any new ideas for those events. We are in need of new ideas for the other four nights.

Round 1 is usually an icebreaker and lasts about 20 minutes...no food, no decorations.
Round 2 is usually 25 minutes, no food, no decorations
Round 3 is usually 30 minutes...food and decorations allowed
Round 4 is usually 35-40 minutes...food and decorations allowed

Last year we did a Harley Theme throughout rush.

A couple of years ago we did:
Get to know the sisters of AOX (icebreaker, played Jenga)
Club AOX (dressed up in "bar" clothes)
Around the World with AOX (had various foods, decorations, etc.)

We have also done:
Mexican Fiesta
Under the Sea (ugh...I hate this one)
The Wonder Years (50's theme)
70's theme
80's theme
Casino Night
All I need to know I learned in AOX
Lip Service-Kareoke
Pajama Jammy Jam
Greek Geeks
Disney Theme (I dressed up like Pocahontas )

That's all I can remember right now.

I'm sure we will use a couple of old ideas but for some reason no one can come up with anything NEW!!

Please HELP!

There aren't specific events planned for each round of parties (i.e., skit, philanthropy, slide shows, etc)? I've never heard of each party being whatever you want it to be.

Nope, each sorority can do pretty much whatever they want for each night.

Just make sure that, with such short parties, you don't have really long skits or presentations - you want to leave time for conversation.

Themes that have been used on my campus:

- 1001 Arabian Nights
- Mardi Gras
- Parisian Cafe
- Baseball (this one was a dismal failure and that sorority never used it again)
- Jungle
- Casino Night (problem is that both sisters and rushees focused on the games rather than talking about the sorority)
- Down on the Farm
- Theatre
- '50s

PM me if you want details. The trouble is that a lot of these themes won't make sense without decorations...

We don't perform skits or give structured presentations. We do a lot of mingling. We like to break ourselves into small groups and make sure all of the girls have their questions answered.

We always do a 'Coke night' where we decorate with Coca Cola paraphanalia and serve coke floats. Plus we have a cute coke song that we sing. We also have a day where we decorate like we are under the sea and call it our
'under-the-sea philanthropy'... we have a fish bowl at every table with real fish in it... its really cute.

I have to wonder why you need that many nights! Six? For only three sororities? No wonder you have to find stuff to fill it up!

Most campuses do an info night followed by three or four rounds, where pref is the fourth round, so it's five nights max. And with three chapters, I'm sure five nights is enough for the girls to decide where they want to go and vice-versa. Have you considered getting together with Panhel and cutting the number of parties down by one?

i know some of these ideas were already mentioned but here is the list of parties that my sorority has done in the past.

disco party( we have a skit and song if you would like)
garden party
round up party (western theme also has a line dance skit and song if you like)
pajama party
baseball
football
jungle theme
masquerade ball (very very easy and efficient)
aladdin theme
casino night
ship wreck party (skit and song too)
luau party

I went to a commuter university so it is very hard to hold rush events every night of the week when so many girls take night classes. Most girls are not able to make it to all events because of class scheduling...that is why it is split into two weeks with three events each week.

Week #1
Monday: Info. Night
Tuesday: Round 1
Thursday: Round 2

Week #2
Monday: Round 3
Wednesday: Round 4
Thursday: Preference Night

We don't have a problem with hosting this many events. The sororities at my school like to make sure we get to know each and every single girl going through rush.

AOX81- Could u please specify what you did for your harley theme....i really like that idea ...what did your t-shirts look like and where did u order them from...and what did the room look like also...thanks
